This may seem rather silly to all you learned folk but Iv just realised I don't have photo editing software of any use? I'm not a quick learner or very technically minded so what is simple and good ?
I use a mac and will use a 32" screen , also I love b&w
Any help greatfully received .

I suggest you look into the software supplied with your camera, to start with. Personally, I use Adobe Lightroom. If you've invested in an iMac and a big screen, (similar to my own set-up), then you may consider LR once you've made a start with your supplied software or one of the many free downloads available.

I have aperture on my mac and I'll be honest I don't have a clue how to use it , iv used iPhoto a little bit , iv been told Lightroom is amazing and silver fx ?
I shoot everything in raw and colour and would dearly love to work from there ........... I do feel silly at times

i would say, im the same, not the best with learning new stuff, but found light-room very simple to learn and use, once you get your head around it.

but if you all ready have Aperture, i would just start with that, plenty of vids and such around to get you the basics, the rest you will pick up as you go

If you have aperture then I'd suggest starting there unless you have cash to burn, in which case I would think Lightroom a significant upgrade.
IMO iPhoto isn't worth a wet slap, though some like it for the most basic work.

Lots of tutorials available on youtube. I don't know how good they are, but some should certainly help you get started. When I started using lightroom I watched about 15 tutorials by Anthony Morganti, and although he has a very specific and characteristic approach to development that I've had to unlearn a bit, it was really helpful to get me started. You will likely find something similar for Aperture.

BTW B&W is easy to achieve with lightroom - the colour management section in the develop module has a B&W conversion control that is very effective. I should expect aperture to have something similar.

Thank you I will over the next few weeks be spending most of my free time in a darkened room mostly swearing trying to learn , after I feel I have learned I shall attempt to put some of my images up for critique and then start learning again .............. Happy days :)
