So a big parcel has just arrived! It's my competition prints that have got into the finals of the NW BIPP awards (British Institute of Professional Photographers for those that don't know). And I have gone all of a wimpy weak blonde idiot

It doesn't seem to matter how many times I've entered, how much better I am from the first time I entered, I'm as nervous as hell! :cuckoo:

I've laid them all out in the studio and I'm pleased with them, but still scared about handing them in next week! At least they have arrived on time, and look good as prints! Phew.

So for any of you out there who feel nervous putting your images up for crit - don't worry, you're not alone :lol::lol:

I'm sure you'll do great Zoe, it doesnt look like you have much to worry about image wise. I find denial my best weapon against nerves, I just float away until it is actually right in front of me! That is one of the benefits that my course has given me, we get a crit each week  The thing that is scaring me right now is I have an exhibition coming up and an interview for a magazine, bricking it!

Let us know how you get on with the competition.:)

I'm used to crit, but I still get nervous about the bit where I put my images in for the finals part! Silly isn't it? The results get announced on 17th April!

I've got my pretty frock all sorted :D Silver and black, kinda 1950s - just got to get a net underskirt sorted (sorry guys) and the shoes!

Oh, and a bag.

And get my hair done.

That will keep me going on the float away bit

paaahhh, whats up with you girl? They have arrived as prints and look good, which is the bit I always dread....no idea why, I have a calibrated screen, nowt too much wrong with my eyesight, yet always dread opening those print envelopes/parcels :cuckoo: .... BIPP should be easy after that... :whistling: :p

Good luck

LOL, hope so! :D If I don't get placed, I'll tell 'em to come speak to Yv! :D

Thanks all! Nerves are calming down a bit now - mainly cos I need to concentrate on the clients who are due to arrive shortly to discuss their wedding! Fingers crossed on that one too, it's a biggy!

Yes that is one of the good (and important) parts of these sort of things, once your all ready to go the nerves will be away! You have also just reminded me that I dont have an outfit for my exhibition  Online shopping beckons :naughty:

You forgot the nails :)

Good Luck

Nah! Hate the nails bit - I'm more into my makeup than my nails :D Mind, I have to have painted toe nails! :D Even in the winter!

Good luck Zoe

As for the nerves, your a braver person than I

Brave? Stoopid? Close to each other, those two  Even with the nerves it's worth it - I got 2 golds last year, one the year before so I'd really like to get at least one this year too if I can! And me mum feels proud when I win things :D

I submitted 10 last year, I think it was 10 the year before that and 7 the year before that. Can't remember how many got through, think it was 6 last year. This year I submitted 15 and got 9 through (I'd love to know why some of the others didn't get through because at least 2 were stronger than those that are through!) You can submit as many as you like, but you pay £5 per image submitted.

Cool.

Are there certain things they are looking for, or do you just submit images that you personally think are really strong? What's your selection criteria?

Mind if I ask what is your motivation for entering?

Sorry for all the questions...I'm just interested. :)

Good luck with the finals Zoe... I'm sure you'll do well. :)

Si

I hope we going to see some of the said work Zo ???? If you win something you going to be brave enought to show it on TP ?

Dan, I'll be back after tea to answer your questions, I think they're actually useful ones for anyone ever thinking of entering competitions or thinking of going for their Licentiate with the BIPP or the MPA.

Dave, yes, I'll post after the awards evening on 17th April. Or if anyone wanted to take a look at the BIPP North West website under awards then you'll see the whole set of images, look at the bottom of the image and you'll see the names of who entered the image - I'm the only Zoe (the one and only  ) www.bippnw.co.uk

Thanks for the best wishes everyone :D

Good luck Zoe, thats a fantastic panel you have there. They are all great, but i really love the B&W girl laying on the ottoman at the end of the bed:thumbs:
