So that gary fong guy made some kind of on camera diffuser thing, plus there are loads of other expensive bits of plastic for on camera speedlight.

Does anyone use them, are there any reccomendations?

Ive build a couple before out of carex bottles and they work ok but I need something a bit more pro looking for weddings.

They all do the same thing - diffuse the light so it's spread all around and bounces off the surrondings, usually the ceiling. It's the bounced light that does the softening so in that respect they are all dependent on the environment.

I like this Lumiquest Quik Bounce, mainly because it's better when there is no bounce surface, eg outside, and it doesn't waste light going behind you. Very versatile and does most things well, £40 http://www.lumiquest.com/products/quik-bounce.htm

Of all the others, Stofen is as good as any and it's just so easy, robust and unobtrusive. It's rightly popular. You can get a cheap copy for about two quid I think.

I use both. Or just pull out the bounce card - that's very effective too.

Was looking at those but they seem pretty expensive over here.

I made one of the Lumiquest things from some white foam from a craft store, some velcro and some elastic. It does exactly the same thing. Great results in my opinion.

is the lightsphere thing no good then?

It works fine. Depends on the environment, like I said. Looks daft and not cheap either, but it works okay. Then a plastic milk bottle will do exactly the same thing ;)

£34.31 from Amazon. And you can't really make a Quik Bounce out of DIY card. Folds flat too https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_s...=6_0_1_0_0_0_0_0_0_1.140_429&fsc=-1&x=14&y=25

If you haven't got a diffuser and want to try a few things, have a go with a bounce card for nowt www.abetterbouncecard.com And get a Stofen lookalike for a couple of quid off FITP. Everyone should really have one of those.

Do you need the extra strap to connect it onto the flash or can you use something else?

It comes with velcro pads, or you can buy their strappy thing if you don't want stuff on the gun.
