My computer has a SATA SSD and a NVMe M.2 SSD.
The only thing I use it that uses ressources is Lightroom.
The laptop has a good processor and a lot of memory.

On which drive should my windows 10 and software installed?
On which drive should my lightroom catalogue installed?
On which drive should me photos stored?

Other than LR I only use the laptop for internet browsing and streaming netflix, bbc Iplayer.
 
I have W10 on drive "C" which is the drive the desktop computer I have starts up on, also with the editing program I use. As for storing photos I would suggest getting an an extrnl; drive as no doubt you would need a larger storage capacity than on your computer . Anyway that is part of my setup

NVMEs tend to be small (compared to spinning metal) and very fast.

So.....

Stuff you use all the time (e.g. OS and apps) goes on NVME.
Stuff that takes a lot of space goes on SSD.

Catalogue - if you have space and use it a lot (every day / several times a week) I'd put on NVME.

My PC has a similar set-up with M.2 & SSD but with a large capacity HDD as well.

W10 and all my apps are on the M.2 - which really is quick even compared to the SSD. I use the SSD for my LR catalogue and it is also where I initially import images to and where they stay until I have culled and edited them. Once I'm done with editing I transfer the edited images to the HDD and delete the rest from the SSD. Deleting and transferring the images is done from within LR so that the catalogue knows where they are.

My backup routine is completely separate from the above.
 
At the moment i'm like you guys are saying.
I have 500GB M.2 with windows and app
I have 1TB ssd with all lightroom catalogue and photo which is getting a bit tight.

I was wondering if I should.

1) buy a 2TB M.2 NVME for about £180 and then have
-1 TB ssd with windows and app
-2 TB M.2 NVME for photos

or

2) buy a 2tB sata SSB for about £160 and then have
- 500 GB M.2 NVME for windows and app
- 2 TB sata ssd for photos

Questions are:
-will my laptop slow down for having windows and app on sata instead of NVME?
-will my laptop slow speed up for having picture on NVME instead of SATA?

At the moment the only time the laptop slows down is when i'm skipping through a lot of picture in lightroom.
 
I'd probably grab a 2TB nvme drive, put the OS and apps on it and save all new photos to it too, leaving the 1TB SSD as is.
 
Gosh it look like i might have to be carefull shoosing the M.2 NVME. It looks like there differente generation or might not all be compatible?
I need to look into it. First open my laptop and see what's in it to replace.

At the moment it seem to be a PM961 NVMe Samsung 512GB

I've just order a SATA and a NVME.

I got a crucial 2TB sata for 130£ brand new on ebay. Which seem to be a very good price.

But then today I've just ordered this sabrent rocket 2TB.
Usually you see them at 175£ on ebay, 200£ at other shops.
But that guy as them listed at 130£, even as low as 117£ if you buy more that one!

 
I've never heard of Sabrent and I thought I knew about computer component manufacturers.
That price is very cheap for a 2TB and I would be dubious about it.
On Amazon and other places they are £229.99 which leaves me smelling a rat on ebay.
As Tori-T has pointed out, new seller with zero feeback.
 
I was a bit quick buying indeed. Because i've lost a few bids it came up automatically and i just cliked buy instantly.
Well if it does not turn up. Ebay are good at refunding.

Sabrent is a relatively new but well-established brand and well thought of in the Overclockers forums. They're just about the only company supplying large capacity M.2 2242 SSDs and I have a 1TB version in my Lenovo Ideapad.
 
Lol, that was quick, I already got a refund! Not even after 24h of ordering the item.
 
Now relisted @ £140.
Did you get a real refund? (Not just a fake email saying you've been refunded?)

It's not been relisted the £140 is a 2242, the one I bought was 2280 (different shape).

I've been toying with the idea of upgrading the 512GB NVME in my laptop for a while and based on what you've said I will check Sabrent out.
 
scan.co.uk seem very good on price and choice, you get 1TB for no much more money.

Weird, that does not come on my computer. Maybe the reason he cancelled my order and refunded me is because I live in an area that is often get surcharged by courier (scottish isles). So if he's change the posting to option i won't see it anymore.
 
Rather interestly, Sabrent make a faster read / write speed NVME cheaper than the likes of Samsung,

Delivery method quoted in the original listing was Royal Mail 1st class; they don't surcharge.
If you log into PayPal, your money is definitely back on your account balance?
(Sorry, but IMO this is starting to stink like a week-old kipper.)
 
The original listing and the relisted item look the same to me and they've increased the price by a tenner.
Plus the fact that it is way cheaper than anywhere else so unless it's a grey import, I'm inclined to agree with Tori_T.
 
Yup, with ebay if the price is too good to be true etc.
 
It is looking more and more dodgy indeed.
I didn't notice that in paypal there is a note coming with the refund.
Have a look by yourselves.

So...
You buy a drive, at a great price.
The seller then sends you a note saying you're being refunded because the item you bought has been stolen.
The seller then relists the "stolen" item(s) at a higher price, but you, a previous purchaser, can't see that listing even though others can.

Please check directly with your payment service (bank/paypal) that the refund has been logged with them. You're no longer expecting the goods, so if the refund hasn't actually been initiated, the funds may clear to the seller before you notice you haven't got them back.
 
Sorry for posting this dodgy link in the first place, i did not realised.
The refund has not cleared into my account yet but it will.
I have put a complaint against the seller on ebay.
I was going to do the same on paypal but i couldn't it suggest filling a complaint directly with ebay.
