Silk Tripods??

hi,

I have been looking for the silk 700 dx tripod, i have ordered about 6 different ones over the last week, only to find out after ordering that no one has any in stock!

Has anyone bought one recently or can recommend me to a shop online? As i am fairly urgent for one.

I have looked at the Manfrotto 055XProb but it does not extend as high as the silk, and being 6ft 3 i think the extra length will help!

I've just bought an 055 and it extends to well over 6'3''. Have you seen one?
 
no not seen one, but looking at the spec on the website it says it extends to 178.5 cm, which is less than 6'3.

I am totally new to photography, so no doubt i am wrong!!
 
If you wait till the morning I will get mine out and measure it!

OK,

I have just measured the height and you are correct. With the legs out at the 1st position the height is 178.5cm.

But, the head has to be taken into account, 13cm in this case and the the distance from the base of the camera to the viewfinder, (8cm).

So add it all up and we are pushing 2m!
 
never thought about the head! having seeing the manfrotto 190xb in jessops, the build quality seemed to be excellent, so sunsure what to do really!

I have a Slik 700 dx (with a manfrotto 488rc2 head) and it's massive fully extended. I'm 6'2" and my D80 sits perfectly in my eyeline without having to extend the centre column. It's a good, sturdy tripod, maybe a little long when folded - but if thats not an issue i would recommend it.

I managed to pick up mine near enough brand new from ebay... It was a steal at £55!! ;o)
