This is something which drives me crazy! Hollow UPVC window sill, so when the wind is in the right direction the rain that runs down the wall above or drips from the actual window frames onto the sill makes a really annoying drumming noise. Trying to think of what to do to silence it? Maybe a self adehesive foam sheet? not sure it would look good though, A thin sheet of wood? Then there;s sealing it round the edges so it doesn't rot!

Anyone got another solution?

A picture may help. I cannot quite visualise your window, but it sounds like you are trying to treat the symptom and not the problem.

I'm not that much of an DIY expert but it sounds like you need to attach an overhang of some kind above the window. My house has them, made from tiles that juts out a few inches from the brickwork.

I think I have found the solution - fill the void with silicone rubber. Much more dense than any expanding foam and won't make anywhere near as much mess if it gets where it isn't supposed to.
