I put my sigga 17 - 70F2.8 into London Camera Exchange for a repair estimate, it was making an awful high pitched sound when focusing at its widest point. The tell me they have sent it on to Sigma. I did this on the 5th may and I am still no further on getting an estimate or getting it back for my hollies:shake: Has anyone else experienced long delays from sigma:shrug:

bujjer
i have a Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 DC macro HSM which was going in for calibration

dont want to lose it for my summer holidays

need feedback here folks..........:D

I noticed on the Facebook page for the lens rental place that they commented that Sigma and Nikon take a lot longer to repair things, so I assume the same is to be said for calibration.

Incidentally I need to send off my 12-24 for calibration (£98!) so I'd be interested in the time scale. I might email them to see if they can tell me actually.

I've always sent direct back to sigma (probably cheaper and faster than going via a third party) but got a lead time estimate first. They usually quote 2-3 weeks but may be busy and/or waiting on parts from HK.

Get in touch with them, ive sent my 70-200 away and got a quote back the following day. Unfortunately its off to Japan now for a custom circuit board!

Exactly the same here. My 70-200 went in at the start of may. Needed a new circuit board but when they fitted said board it wast good enough so I've got to wait for another board to be sent

I sent my 120-300 2.8 direct to Sigma, within 3 working days I had a letter with a cost and an agreement to sign, sent that straight back and my lens came back to me within two weeks (new AF motor and new mount). It was about £140 if I remember correctly, very happy with that given the value of the lens.

Are there any benefits doing it via a store? Direct seemed much easier to me.

I sent my 24-70 & 150-500 in to Sigma for calibrate/service & got estimates back by return post. I had the 24-70 back the following week, the 150-500 took 8 weeks...

Sigma are sloooow I've sent a lens in twice and both times it took 3+ weeks

Like I say it depends very much on their current jobs and availablity of parts. That's why they say to check lead times before sending.

But the 4 instances I've dealt.with them have been good experiences. Two of.which you can find threads for on.here, plus 1.5 week turnaround on a loose rear element and about the same on a new aperture mech.

Well Im off on holiday in a couple of weeks so I will go in to LCE and see if I can shuffle them along a little. I think 5 weeks so far is a little to long and not very good customer service. I have rang them a couple of times only to be told that they will make enquiries and get back to me, no call so far.

I took my 120-300mm into their offices in Welwyn Garden City (Herts) by appointment. There was a problem with the tripod collar not locking down properly. They fixed it there and then (took maybe 15 minutes) and no charge. I was pretty impressed.

can you not go direct to Sigma, they have been good keeping me infformed of my lens so far.

I must also be lucky, I sent my 50/500 off for re-calibration and got it back pin sharp in under a week.

I have sent mine 24-70mm to Sigma (WGC) for new circuit board, came back after 5 working days

I just got a reply from Sigma UK. They say the turn around for simple repairs in the UK is 2-3 weeks. If it had to be sent to Japan for more serious issues its around 6-8 weeks, longer if there are stock issues on parts.

£206 for a new focus motor...... no way!! For £100 more I can get a new one or there abouts, with a warranty. Time to start saving my pennies.

Dont understand why a lens would destroy its focus motor in 14 months

well that really sucks

just had a look on eBay ''Completed'' ...going for £160-220....

Wh not go down the "fit for purpose" route, if you can prove its a fault doesnt the UK have the consumer rights thing. Hopefully someone more clued up than me can explain that better. Id certainly be complaining to someone i know that much.

You have to take that up with the retailer not manufacturer if I remember rightly.

Remember lenses are mechanical, so like your car for example can break at any time..

Sorry to bring this back to the top, but one question.

I have been to the retailer who is being rather ackward stating that the lens must have taken a knock which would have caused the damage. I can say otherwise as I know that this was for me a lot of money to spend, so I looked after it.

The question: Being as I know the lens was not dropped, is it likely or possible that the sony inbuilt focus motor would have damaged the lens internal focus motor somehow? I really dont know which motor is used when the lens has its own :bonk:. I really miss this lens and want to start saving for a new one, but am worried the same thing will happen.

Thank you

There was a problem with Sonys stripping gears on lenses, not sure if that's whats happened to you? see here

120-300 and 300-800 go direct to Sigma on an annual basis for service and check over.Generally two weeks, longer if one needs to go to Japan, longest was 5 weeks I believe. Deal with Sigma direct though if you can, good people to deal with.
