Hello everyone. Im just wondering if anyone has encountered the same problem as me with a Sigma lens.

I brought a Sigma 70-300 DG macro F4-5.6 lens in march and Ive not used it half as much as id like to. I was in Brighton yesterday taking photos and I fixed the lens on to my Sony A380 and it made the most horrendous noise when i switched it on. The camera started vibrating and it wouldn't focus on anything in auto or manual focus, just seemed to have shut down.. when two minutes earlier I was taking photos with it perfectly fine, my friend was holding it, none has ever dropped it. scrapped it or forced it onto the cam.

I know its not the high end of the scale of lens as it was only £150 but you expect it to last longer then a few months.

Its been sent back to Sigma but I was just wondering wether anyone else had experianced such problems with a Sigma? Ive asked the camera shops but of course they wouldn't tell me they aren't very good quality.
Thank you for your time.

I have the same lens and mine has been really good it's just a shame the bloke using isn't as good lol

I've owned Sigma lenses in the past & never had a problem with them... It just may be that you have unfortuneatly got a "bad apple" as so to speak...

If its under warranty (as it being brought in March) which I'd imagine it would be then you have nothing to worry about..

I know that doesn't help you as you dont have a lens to be shooting with - I've brought new products before & like you they have decided to give up the ghost - but they got replaced...

Don't let it stop you buying Sigma again thou - as it could happen to absolutely anything...

Hi Laura

I had exactly the same problem with the same lens last year.

I bought mine in April and it broke in July, just like you say yours went - one minute it was fine, then it just wouldn't focus or anything.

I sent mine back to the shop where I purchased it from, they sent it back to Sigma who said the whole of the circuit board inside needed replacing. The shop said I would have it back within 28 days.

After me patiently waiting the 28 days for Sigma to sort it out (which they didn't), the shop ended up giving me a brand new replacement.

Good luck with yours.

Alison :)

I've had issues with a Sigma zoom lens before (17-70 f2.8-4) where the focus gears got all ground up and jammed preventing the lens from focussing and causing an amount of struggle between the camera and said lens during operation.

Wow not very good news all round then.

The shop assistant told me it will take 3 weeks to sort out.. its abit of a nightmare if they don't send it back before goodwood festival of speed. Looks like I won't be buying Sigma again. Thanks for the feedback. :-)

as above dont let one issue put you off, we've got 4 sigmas now across the range and theyre all perfect. also as above canon, tamron et al arent immune to issues either.
