sigma or tamron

been looking at getting the sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens and iv seen that tamron do a lens the same . the tamron is cheaper but is it any good . i had a go with a friends sigma and it seemed fine.
also is it worth paying the extra money for the a max aperture across the range lens

The Tamron is better optically, but with much slower auto focus than the Sigma.

Yes, the Sigma is excellent.
