Hi I'm looking into lenses for landscape photography :), after doing some research,I came across these lenses:

Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG ASL

Nikon 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 G ED VR AF-S DX Nikkor

Nikon 18-35mm F3.5-4.5 ED-IF AF

They all sound like good lenses but not sure which one to go for, any advice or tips on these lenses, much appreciated, thanks :)

Natasha

Also check out the Tokina 11-16 2.8. I have one and I am very happy with it :)

What is your budget? I don't know anything about those lenses myself but someone may be able to suggest a reasonable alternative in the same price range?

I have the 10-20mm Sigma as well and love it. I would have gone for the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 but it does not AF on my camera

Hi guys Thank you for your messages, I really appreciate it :), the Nikon 16-85mm lens sounds good (sometimes I use a long focal length for landscapes). Even though the Sigma 10-20mm sounds like a great lens for landscape photography, I think the shorter focal length might be restricting, sometimes I use a focal length between 25 and 90mm :)

If your considering going full frame at sometime bear that in mind when choosing

Hi guys Can you get wide-angle lenses (Sigma or Nikon) that go up to 55mm? Just checked some of my landscape photos and even though sometimes on my old camera I used my 300mm zoom lens for landscapes, when I used my kit lens, the focal length was 18mm, so I might go for the Sigma 10-20mm lens or the Sigma 12-24mm lens, sorry for being a pain lol.

Tamron 17-50mm, those 10mm are far too wide.

The Nikon 17-55 would be the best option, but it is over twice your budget :(

:plusone::thumbs:

I use the Nikkor 17-55 most of the time even though I have the Sigma 10-20.

If your considering the Sigma 10-20, might be worth looking at the Tokina 12-24 f/4. Constant f/4 through the range, and most tests is sharper than the Sigma. Depends if you need the extra 2mm at the wide end though!

I had this lens and also hired the sigma 10-20mm and tbh the tokina was better, sharper, better colour rendition and the f4 al the way through was a bonus. And for some reason I sold it :bang: It will have to be replaced I think.

I agree, look at the Tokina 12-24mm f4.

I have the Canon version and it is very sharp (many say that it is the 2nd best lens after the Tokina 11-16mm).

Hi Thank you for your messages, going to look into the Tokina lens :). Is it the Tokina 12-24mm f4 AT-X DX lens? Sorry for asking a stupid question, just want to make sure I'm looking for the right lens

The difference for the DX and DXII on a Nikon is the focus motor which should not be a problem with the D300 and the coating (which does not make too much of a difference, I tried both the DX and the DXII on a Canon and did not see any difference in flare control or image quality, actually the DX was a bit sharper!)

Hi That's good there isn't alot of difference between the lenses :). I've been doing research on the Tokina 12-24mm, it sounds like a good lens, probably going to buy the Tokina lens or one of the Sigma wide-angle ones (the 10-20mm or the 12-24mm) :). They all sound like good lenses for landscape photography, it might take me til Christmas to decide which one to go for

Hi guys Just came across the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di-II LD ASP IF lens on Warehouse Express, it sounds like a good lens :). Has anyone used this lens for landscape photography? Sorry for being a pain and going for a different brand to Sigma and Nikon lol.
