The difference between photography and painting is that we can choose the focal length of the view.

When making a painting you can choose any 'focal length' you like, and you can b****r about with manipulate perspective, scale and viewpoint in ways that you can't when making a single exposure with a camera.

Think Cézanne's tilting of planes leading to Cubism and it's multiple viewpoints. More recently (using photography) Hockney's joiners and some of his more recent ventures into 'lens based media'.

I didn’t think through that analogy did I :sorry:

But my point re zooming with your feet stands.

It doesn’t work does it?
I know that very well, but as already mentioned, that was sarcasm towards someone who thinks he bought a Zeis Otus 55 mm, instead of a Sigma 24-105 mm, just because he heard that the build quality at Sigma is not as good. ;)

The Zeiss is crap compared to the Sigma.
At wide angles and short telephoto, although cropping to lose resolution and stitching to create a load of PP work are options.

@Winslowe ... Can you post some pics in this thread with your Zeiss lens for us to see?
Even if I had my slides drum scanned at the highest quality, I doubt there is enough IQ difference in the lenses to show up on a monitor - you may need a test bench. My choice was based on more than IQ testing.

So you can tell people that you own it :)
Or you can pretend you own one ... I have a great lens, I would show it to you but it's outside in my Ferrari and i'm too idle to go and get it .... :D

Do people (adults) really bother to lie about such things to random strangers on the internet? I’m not bothered personally, but the Queen is coming for tea later and I’m sure she would be interested to know.
Ah that's great, ask her about the time me and her went skinny dipping in the lake at Balmoral, and remind her she still owes me £10 for that bottle of Gin I got her ...

Ahhh she owes you too? Lizzie like to ‘borrow’ money. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a penny of what I’ve lent her in the past.
Just write to the Comptroller of the Royal Household, enclosing a copy of the IOU

That's what I did and they transferred the money to my offshore account straight away... :naughty: :coat:
