My son has a Nikon D60, and I have been offered a Sigma 170-500 APO Zoom for a Nikon AF with a Hoya 86mm UV filter for £400. (mint condition).

Is this OK for his camera, and is the lens a Good one:thinking:

Image quality wise to the 170-500 isn't as good as the 50-500, and may be on a par with the 150-500. As for whether it's a 'good buy', suggest you trawl through eBay and see what things are actually selling for (rather than the price they're offered at)

I checked on my list. It seems that there is no built in motor for 170-500mm. So your son will struggle on using autofocuse. There is no body motor on D60. You need to look around sigma lens with HSM or built in motor. Some 50-500mm, or 150-500mm with motor built in maybe more suitable than 170-500.

I have been offered a canon (mint) for £200, checked out ebay they can sell for £250-£350.
So £400 sounds expensive.

I bought one on here for £270 a few months ago.
