Yes
Nothing at all to do with Canon.

Right, that's got rid of almost everyone ........:p

For a Sony Alpha100 DSLR but I'm sure that's not going to help. Have been thinking about my lens collection which is very limited.

Currently have the std Sony 18-70mm kit lens.
And a Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro f4-5.6.
Considering a Sigma 28 - 200mm f3.8 - f5.6 AF

Just wondered if anyone had any comments on the two Sigma lenses :help:

Ta.

Sigma seem to make two types of lenses, those that are aimed at a very low budget and those that are designed to give good images. There are some that fall inbetween, like the 12-24 which is not cheap but neither is it really any good but that's drifting off topic.

The two that you've picked out there are definatley budget jobs and that will be really apparent in your pics. Not on here where they'll be tiny and shrunk in file size too but in the real world.

Do the older minolta lenses go on that new box of tricks you bought? If so and you can do without whatever function you'll probably loose, I suspect they may well be a better optical bet.

A lot of the Minolta stuff fits. But most now know it does so prices have gone back up accordingly. :(

The 70-300 I've got already.
Just wanted to know how good the 28-200 was as useful alternative to the kit lens.

Besdies my pics don't warrant some fancy-dan white bazooka.

Not had any dealings with the 28-200 but the 70-300 APO is supposed to be one of the better budget buys out there;) They do get a bit soft at 300 but are not too bad at all up to 200.

Why are us three having this converstaion on here by the way?

Good question

You're only defending the 70-300 'cos you've got one.
Had mine for about 10 years I think.

I'd like the Sony 300 2.8 but don't have the £4k they want for one. Odd as it is

Very few actually do.

...but you know plenty well enough to know that the value of good glass way outstrips the value of a good body. I'm lucky enough to be able to justify a nice little colection of good glass..... and the best bits aren't white, aren't big or impressive, hell the don't even focus on their own and one won't even stop down on it's own. Pics are rather nice though. ;)

Should I mention practicality out in the field about now ?

I do agree though, some of my best pics were taken with that gear ;)
