Yes
thinking of a Sigma F2.8 70-200 mm but i keep reading its soft at the 200 range
want to know if it really is & how soft is soft
I can not justify a nikon version but i dont want to purchase a soft lens either
could probly get a nikon f4 version but at the moment this would be at my price limit ,

I would go for the Tamron, I pick mine up in a week or so.

The Sigma isn't a particularly good lens the Nikon f4 would be streets ahead but the Tamron would be a good alternative.

No, the Sigma's a great lens, used one for years and never felt the urge to replace it (I have the non OS HSM mk2 version).

Mines sharp wide open and at 200mm though there will be some copy variation on the older versions.

The new OS version is very, very good.

YMMV :)

Your Mileage May Vary, in other words your experience may be different from his.

I had a 70-200mm f/2.8 Sigma for a while. There are some test shots in this photobucket folder.

Replaced it last year with a 100-400 MkII (Canon)

would you be so kind to post your early thoughts when you have used it in anger please

thanks for the early replys so far

Do you really need f/2.8? If not, then the Nikon f/4 is a fine fine lens. Although has become rather pricey in the last 9 months or so.

in truth most likely not
, done a couple of people/indoor wedding shots for family like the bokeh effect they create

Is the Nikon 70-300 worth a look, I was gobsmacked after recently skipping over to Nikon how sharp (to 220mm) lightweight and cheap it was! Well impressed

Never had a problem with my sigma 70-200 . But when anything happens to it it will be replaced with the Nikon version. The focus is instant on the Nikon lens

I've owned a few Sigma lenses, inc the 70-200. Have to say ... i really didn't get on with that one. I also have their 150mm macro OS, which has given me nothing but grief. I loved the 35mm 1.4 Art, but only after I exchanged the first crappy copy I received, 2nd one was glorious. I would go for the Tamron, or the F4 Nikon. Sigma's "QC" is just appalling.

TBH I think Sigmas QC is pretty good these days. The Sigma 105 OS is sublime, possibly one of the best lenses I've had the pleasure of using. Their new 20mm and 150-600 lenses are very, very good as well.

My 70-200 non OS still delivers excellent images.

I have the last version of their 150mm F2.8 APO macro EX DG OS, it was a pricey lens, and it was a major let down. The OS dislodged itself somehow, it's never had a knock or fall, it still looks mint cosmetically. But It's now a non OS lens pretty much. I could have got the older version a hell of a lot cheaper and saved some weight. The 35 1.4, well like I said, I got a terrible copy of that initially, I think it was actually trying to focus behind me it was that bad :D and the 70-200 I had was soft at 200mm, it had terrible contrast, washed out colours ... They may be better now, but I didn't buy those lenses all that long ago. I'm certainly not anti-Sigma, I fancy their 10-24 for the Fuji, but I would like to try before I ever buy one of their lenses again

I'm surprised to hear that about the 150mm, that's pretty well regarded. Did you get it replaced / repaired or was it a used purchase?

Bought new but lost the receipt during a move. The issues started about a year in. I still use it for macro and portraiture. Optically it's still an amazing chunk of glass. But the OS is a real PITA. It still shifts about and makes that noise like it's kicking in, but it's not having any effect on the shots. It can no doubt be fixed, but that would mean shipping it off to Sigma and have them charge me a couple hundred quid for a lens I feel I've already over payed for :(

That's a shame :( Did you register it for the extended warranty? (Though I'm sure you've already exhausted all the options re getting it fixed!)

I've been putting off (only from a financial point of view) buying the Sigma 20mm f/1.4, but with an upcoming New York trip coming up in two weeks, it might be the perfect lens... [emoji3]

20mm would be ideal for NYC for sure. You could save a lot if you looked into the Samyang 20mm 1.8 though. That is MF of course, and you'll have no cpu data, but the results would be just as good. If the Siggy 20mm is anything close to the 35 1.4 though, it will be a pleasure to use. That is when Sigma really started to get it right.

My best hope for my 150mm is to trade it into a camera store maybe, see what they'll offer me as they can fix it. Maybe trade for some used gear. OR, I keep it, get a Nikon to Fuji adapter and use it as a manual macro lens.

Hmmm, good call on the Samyang. I do have the 14mm which I like a lot, though MF can sometimes be a pain. Hmmm, decisions...

IIRC the 20mm has the bulbous front end, so filters can be expensive.

True, the 14mm (Samsung) is the same, the filters are huge!

I guess that's the price to pay for FF wides / UWAs?

I just bought the Tamron 15-30mm lens and the filter prices are eye watering for that. Not sure if it's a keeper, so been looking at the Sigma 20mm myself.

Why not the nikon 20mm 1.8G it's much smaller, much lighter and take 77mm filters. I have one for northern light photography and it's a great lens!
