Has anyone got one of these or had any experience of one. Thinking of buying one, or should I save for the Canon version?

Thank you

Dave,

I had one for a while and then swapped it for the Canon version. Absolutely no difference IMO unless you want to use external features like firing it from an ST-E2.

Just be aware that it's made in different versions for different manufacturers but retains the same model number.

I picked up a used one off eBay for next to nothing. I prefer not using flash at all but when I do, it meets my requirements well.

Bought one :) Bl#*dy brilliant.

As I understand it the Canon macroflash version has the facility to use split ratios so that you can have proportional lighting, the EM140 does not do this, you can have one on and one off but not proportional lighting (at least not on the version I had for my Nikon).

Personally I would save up for the Canon version (in actual fact I am).

It does split ratios on the Canon version I have.

Funny how it is not mentioned in Sigma's own blurb and not in the specifications for any model including Canon (can be found on the same page). The only thing they mention is that you can have both tubes on or one tube on if you want to add shadows!

You think that they would be shouting out loud about this benefit!

I stand corrected in the case of the Canon version (not all Canon models though), but I have just checked the manual for the Nikon version and it does not allow proportional flash for any model.

So to sum up, if you have a Canon the EM-140 could be an option, if a Nikon I wouldn't bother!

Thanks OneTen. Was just about to get stuck into the instruction manual to find it. They had told me in the shop it did this.
