...and some bright sunshine! Which do you prefer in terms of handling?..Not tried the dp1m but out of the 2 and 3 the 3 feels easier to hold with the bigger lens barrel, looks nicer as well IMO.

not had chance for a good bash yet, I was enjoying the DP1 yesterday from the regards of shutter speeds handheld, obviously being a lot shorter mm you can keep the ISO lower for longer when the daytime fades, and taking a pic of the kids and cropping in gave a better result than I had expected..

I always said the DP1 would be the least usable to me so I will probably find it being the most :D

Have you got a bag sorted for them David?..I was looking at the lowepro messenger 100,would be ideal for the 3 of them in the main compartment.

I have the 150 which I did get for £15.99

and there are the pretty maids all in a row... they are sitting on the velcro padding thingymibobs and then under those are 2 yongnuo flashes.

My DP1M arrived this morning.

I'd agree - the 3 is easier to hold. Focusing action feels smoother on the 3 as well. The focusing motor on the 1 feels cruder as it steps - particularly when it's moving the focus closer - because in that direction it makes a ticking / ratchet noise.

In terms of the lens on the DP1M - having taken a few test shots out of my window it doesn't have the same across the frame impact as the DP3M wide open - at F2.8 there is a definite softness at the edges. However the centre is good and the edges get better as you stop down past F4.

I think the DP1M will need a bit more care to get the best out of it. Which is to be expected.

I've ordered another GGS II Pro A700 screen protector from one of the suppliers on Amazon for the DP1M.

Think I will go for the 100 then..congrats on your new purchase Andrew, looking forward to seeing some shots out of it.

Dont get me wrong, I wouldve done the same thing as you gents. Ive done it with Fuji. "Cut back" massively on a FF setup and ended up spending just as much on the Fuji system, thank goodness the Sigma software and battery life is crap or I wouldve been in real trouble! I am still tempted by the DP3 though.

Sigma software crap?? How?

I quite like it, plus I am currently using the wife's low to modest spec all in one while I work out what new pc I want and I find the processing is that bad, certainly not as bad as some reviews I have read.

You cannot rush perfection:)

Yeah the software is very straight forward,a little slow but hardly surprising considering the size of the files. Its simple and does the job fine.I think for just under 700 quid you get a lot of value for money..2 great cameras with a stonking prime lens on each!

Stop that, Ive just bought a Fuji 56mm.

Whats AF like on the DP3 compared to the XP1 in lower light?

Stuart not too bad at all at the higher ISO,you are doing well posting pictures without any sun in and monochrome to boot.

The issue at hi iso with these doesn't lie with B&w but colour. What about iso 1600 and 3200 in colour shots?

Yeah its pretty damn good..these are all wide open as well so given its bad press at anything over 400 iso its not to shabby!
Oops nearly forgot the obligatory crop!

I know this is a general photography question but chuff it I shall ask here.. I have 2 Sandisk Extreme 45mb/s class 10 cards and a couple of cheapo ones I have always kept for spare so I am looking for a good 3rd.. would I see any benefit moving up a speed or is that just for transfer rate to computer?

I did read or hear somewhere that you wont gain much using a fast card with the merrills..I would have to say this is true as I have a sandisk extreme 95mbs card in my dp3 and a cheap old 30mb one in the dp2 and there is no difference in my opinion..Maybe a difference on transfer speeds but certainly cant see any whilst using the camera. I just take a pic and do myself a coffee whilst its writing to card anyway:D
