Sigma 70-300mm Lens F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO

I got one a while back. Its a usefull lens to have if you want to play about with longer focal lengths, but it isnt the the best lens in the world (but then it doesnt cost the same as the best lenses). The general opinion is that it works well upto about 200mm in most conditions, you can only really use 300mm in the right conditions (IE nice bright sunny day, but not too bright as to blow highlights).

So yeah its worth it if you want a lens that works, but if you want something that is sharp at 300mm then don't bother :)
 
Pretty much waht other people have said, yes there are much better lenses out there. But and it is a big BUT, none that are anywhere near the low cost of this lens. For overall value for money aginst quality, its superb, buy it you won't regret it :)
 
I agree with what's been said really, good for money but there are much better zooms to be had.

I've had one for 2 or 3 years, I don't regret buying it at all.
 
I have one and I've some lovely results with it, but I've just replaced it with an L lens. A friend has an option on the sigma and is still thinking about it, but if he doesn't go for it I'll advise its availability in another post.
 
I used to have the non APO one and traded it a couple of years ago for a Tamron 28-300, ( now currently for sale if anyone is interested ). I thought it was a great lens for what I wanted, and I did some nice macro stuff on it as it gives 1:2 macro.

Anyway, I have just ordered a new Sigma 70-300 APO from www.onestop-digital.com for £109.99 including delivery.

It is sent from Hong Kong, but they look like a decent company and I have read lots of good reports about them.

I ordered it on Tuesday night and according to the Hong Kong post tracking service, it left Hong Kong on Thursday.

I'll let you know when it arrives.
 
Be interesting to know - I've got my eye on that lens as well. I don't have much need for a long lens, so can't justify the expense of a VR, os something else expensive, so I'm thinking of the Sigma. Please with the quality of my 10-20, so I'm very tempted at the moment...

It has just this minute arrived. All seems well. It's well packaged.

I'll have a proper look tonight when I get it home and on the camera.

So far, very pleased with service from onestop-digital. I think I'll order my new Tamron 18-50 later on. They are doing it for £265.99 including Fed Ex delivery.

Just need to put my Tamron 28-300 on e-bay now to go toward paying for it all.

Excellent - did you have to pay import duty on that? Always unsure about the shipping aspect from Hong Kong:shrug: or am I thinking of the ones on ebay??
 
No import duty as yet.

There is a duty sticker on the box that onestop put on, it states that the item is a 'Lens' and is 'Gift' at a value of 33 euros.

They have a policy of refunding you any duty that you may end up paying.

There are a few threads on various forums about them, people have bought lots from them and only had a letter from customs on the odd occasion. They have then paid customs and sent the receipt to onestop who then refunded them.

Seem like a great company.
 
also got mine from onestop £120 at the time but worth it, as has already been said a bit soft at 300mm but apart from that no complaints, i don't think you will get anything new that comes close for the price, also onestop was great to deal with, it took about 5 days, i've never heard anything negative about onestop quite the opposite, i will be more than happy to deal with them again :thumbs:

They did seem very profesional.

I have just ordered another lens from them last night. A Tamron 18-250, cheapest UK stockist I could find was £329.99 plus delivery. Onestop are doing it for £265.99 including delivery. I' wonder if it will come as quickly as the last one.
 
This was one of the first lenses i bought and i love it.
It is a really good lens for the price (i got min efrom OSD aswell) until i can afford the Canon L version or even the IS version.

Not yet Ewan - still dithering you know what women are like:lol: (well me anyway!) but I think I'm going to order from onestopdigital seeing that the feedback from them is on the whole quite positive. Will let you know:thumbs:

It seems as though a few people have got them and are generally pleased with them - some are saying though that it is a bit soft at 300mm but that doesn't really bother me, only just starting out in photography so don't want to go and spend loads of money on expensive stuff and decide I'm useless or get bored;)
 
ive got one of these lenses, its a good lens, my only problems with it are that it doesnt have the HSM (what can you expect for a little over a hundred quid!) so its a tad too slow focusing for my motorsport stuff. and the colours aint great from it (but they can easily be sorted in PS :)


go for itm, you wont be disappointed!
 
Hi Lady P, i got mine from onestop last year, no problems with delivery at all and a very good price. This isn't a bad lens at all considering the money, yes the focus can hunt in low light but that is my only problem with it. It is light, reasonably well built and pretty sharp. This pic was taken at 300mm on my 20d. 1/500 f8 ISO 400, slight contrast boost and resized for web.

Nice! I was perusing Onestop yesterday and spotted the lens for £109!! I decided at that price I couldn't really go wrong, so I ordered one...
 
I ordered a non APO one. What's the main differences? Is it worth me sending it back and spending more on the APO version?
 
From what I've heard (don't have experience of it) the APO version is totally worth the money. I think the non APO has problems with colour fringing and is probably even softer at 300mm.
 
G Dem for all the difference in price the APO is streets ahead, well worth the extra. I've owned both types and speak from experience.
