Hello

Ive had my Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 APO DG for just over a year now and i think its a great lens, but im finding that i need a bit more zoom for wildlife and stuff like that.

Unfortunately being a student funds are limited so a new lens is out of the question for a while but i was wondering could i use a teleconverter? and if so can anyone recommend one.

Cheers
Chris

You will lose AF and also the image quality will not be adequate.
Better sell you lens and buy a native 400mm or (if you can afford it) 500mm lens

I had this lens when I first started out in photography, a minolta 2x and a sigma DG 1.4x both kept the AF functionality and were fine in good light, especially when tripod mounted. On a budget they will keep you happy until you can afford a faster lens. Do NOT be tempted by the opteka 500mm or 600mm type lens you will find on ebay or equivalent.

if your on a tight budget then dont think about getting a longer lens its cheaper to buy some seed/food and get the birds/wildlife to come closer to you or even invest in a hide of some sort, you can pick up a camo 2 man pop up tent for about £20-£30 or maybe even less.
i had this dilemma not to long ago, i also have the 70-300 siggy but i couldn't really afford a really long lens but then i got some inheritance money and bought a 70-200 mkII siggy and i find that fine and i have a 1.4x TC on the way just in case i need a little more reach. so id say 300mm is ok to shoot wildlife. hope that helps.;)
here's a shot i took the other day when out shooting using my siggy 70-200mm.
