I recently bought this lens and i highly recommend it for those newbies like me who are looking for that little extra zoom without the expense of l lenses, ive been very impressed with the picture quality. the macros excellent to,its a really nice looking lens:suspect::lol: feels very well built and not too heavy or light and at £100 delivered i think its a great catch.

Hi Pete.

I'm been looking into this lens today, I'm looking for a new lens to go on my Nikon D60 for Motorsport (Superbike) purposes. I'm very much a novice, do you think it would be suitable, would the zoom be good enough?

Much appreciated.

hi Adam i'm not expert enough to know if this would be a fast enough lens for superbike though i think it would be if your camera settings are right ? i've not tested on moving subjects yet but for distance would be fine

Thanks for the help Pete. Hopefully someone else can also comment with some advice.

have a look through the talking sports sections/tutorials to see if guides are in there for settings.
I have this lens kicking around spare but never tried it for moving vehicles ... i found that it does rely on good light though.

did you decide on anything ?

Hi Pete..

Nothing yet, I'm really waiting until I can get in to the classifieds section.
Everyone on here has been very helpful with there advice though..

I've looked at this one, the two different Tamron 70-300 plus the Nikon 70-300 VR which has been highly recommended - but is a little more so would have to be second hand, which I have no problem with.

I'll keep you posted..

Yes its difficult when your starting with so many options, i'm getting the sigma 18-250 os macro as an all rounder, i think thats probably all i should need for time being and seems to have really good write ups though ive hardly used my camera yet thanks to the weather.I'm going to buy new as i want the 3 year warranty for peice of mind and hang on to the canon f1.8 and the sigma 70-300 for other uses, for wildlife i'll go for the sigma 150-500mm or something like that at a later date. The thing is you have to keep things in perspective when people talk about L lenses and the like as you have to think budget, time to spend etc and how much you want to get into things.
