sigma 70-200 saga

I bought a Sigma 70-200 lens from onestop-digital about seven weeks ago but it was faulty when it arrived. I returned it, and finally got it back today, apparently repaired. I was delighted when I stuck it on the camera and fired off a couple of shots ... then it stopped working again. No autofocus. I tried it on a different body and it wouldn't even allow me to fire the shutter. Talk about frustrated. I think the time has come to cut my losses and get a refund. What do you reckon? Have I just been unlucky? Should I get the Nikon 80-200 instead? Any thoughts, anyone?

Maybe you were unlucky, the Sigma is meant to be a decent lens, but you could get a faulty any brand, if you're unlucky enough.
To be honest, I'd take the Nikon AFD ED everytime, even if the Sigma was HSM.

Do you think they could do anything when it was bought in HK.
I don't really want it to be 'repaired' again. I know it is probably just a bad 'un but I just feel I'm fated not to have it.

You can only ask, one thing you can be sure of, if Sigma UK repair it it will be a good copy when you get it back. There's no guarantee of that even with a replacement. Are you paying the cost of returning it to HK or are OneStop picking that up?

Don't lenses come with 'International' warranties?

I personally would return it for a refund / replacement.

Sigmas lenses do come with an international warranty but Sigma UK have said that they will only honour it if you have paid vat and duty which is fair enough. That said, they don't always check/enforce this rule.
