Anyone have this lens ,if you do how do you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10:)
 
I got the PM :) I love it. It is at least an 8/10 It was all I had to start with and to be honest at the moment would be the last one I would sell on. I can dig you out a few example shots if you like?

I loved mine, I did a bunch of limited ed prints with it a while back, couldn't find the post, but this one here was my last shot with it, I defo recommend it, I traded it in for the 150 and tbh haven't used it too much as it's miles bigger. It's great for getting into macro stuff.

Very good lens I don't use mine nearly enough, I have found the AF hunts a little if you don't switch on the limiter but other than that it a great sharp little lens ;)

Thanks for that Geez.. is worth trying auto extension tubes on this lens :shrug:
 
I did and it did give very good results. You know whatever you have you are never satisfied and Ajophotog is the king of the hill when it comes to Macro shots. to be honest I would love the Sigma 105 macro lens. I have got some macro bellows and am going to try to use this lens on there to see how extreme I can go. I'm trying to be half as good at macro as Ajophotog :)

What i find i enjoy most about macro ,is that it's totally absorbing,nothing quite like it on a warm summers evening a couple of hrs before sunset after a hard days graft :thumbs:
 
One small point that Cowasaki noticed was that the eBay Chinese extension tubes can have some debris in them and should be cleaned thoroughly before fitting them on your pride and joy!
 
It is very addictive and even on cold winter nights there is still something to photograph when shooting in macro mode. Plus you don't need "L" glass to get quality images :thumbs:
 
Further to my initial concerns it appears that the cheapo chinese macro tubes not only come covered in small iron/aluminium filings but even if you thoroughly clean them and blow them off just reassembling them can wear more filings ready to attack your camera. I personally have junked them and wouldn't touch them. I am trying to find a supply of quality ones or a decent set of bellows. I am trying the magnifying lens on my 105vr first though.

What is the different between this and the 105mm (apart from the obvious). I can afford either one but it is worth buying the 105, how is it better? The photos I have seen taken for both seem amazing. Its bloomin confusing trying to decide what to buy.

Very little indeed - the 105 has a greater working distance so you don't need to be as close to your subject to shot at 1:1. This can be handy with live subjects (though you still have to get close with the 105) and can make lighting a bit easier. I have a 105 and a friend has the 50 and in tests I can see no difference in IQ, but I prefer the 105 for the working distance (which is even better on the 150 and 180 ;) )
