Has anyone had any experience on a full frame canon with the above lenses. Are sigma really crap or have I just bought a lemon 80-400 mm. Before trying out my 80-400 I was keen to purchase the above two lenses , however I'm not convinces that sigmas quality control actually exists and from what I read from online reviews I'm not the only one.

I actually prefer sigma to nikon lenses... 50mm 1.4 is perfect, 17-50 2.8 is perfect, 10-20 although now quite old is also perfect.

I had difficulty with the nikon 50mm 1.4 - after going back to Nikon 3 times because it was not sharp (despite fine tuning on camera) it still failed and had to go. Agree with Oskar about the CA wide open, but not too much of an issue pp.

The other two are spot on, and the 17-50 2.8 is my preferred walkabout lens.

I used to have a canon 50mm f1.4 now I have the Sigma 50m f1.4' I also went from a Canon 85mmf1.8 to the sigma 85mm f1.4 and have no regrets :-)

I 've also got a 150mm f2.8 OS macro which I preferred to the Canon 100m L macro

I have them both and use them on my 5D with no problems. I previously used both on my 20D too without issue.

CA wide open, there is some but it's not too bad, par for the course with wide aperture lenses IMVHO.

This lot...

http://www.ephotozine.com/article/sigma-50mm-f-1-4-ex-dg-hsm-interchangeable-lens-review-15364

say... "Chromatic aberrations are at a low enough levels to not really be a cause for concern at every aperture. Even when printed very large the levels recorded by Imatest should not pose many, or any issues."

There'll be loads of reviews if you Google.

The 12-24mm and the 85mm f1.4 are partly responsible for me going FF :D

I have the 12-24 and use it a lot on a D700 (FF Nikon). Love it! Like all of us, I've read loads of tales of Sigma QC issues (and I'm sure they exist) but look slightly deeper and plenty of the stories are from people who haven't actually had a problem, they've just read about it... (Similar tales exist re manufacturers' lenses too - see the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 story above.) However, since the issues do exist, it's worth testing the actual lens you'll be buying before handing over the folding or card.

I'v borrowed a 12-24mm mk1 in the past, didnt seem to have any obvious faults although it did show a good amount of boarder softness on a D800.

I used to have a Sigma 12-24mm Mk1 and I couldn't get away with it as I found it too wide personally, and moved to a 17-40mm. Not being able to use front filters also helped my decision.

I have the Sigma 50mm F1.4 and its a cracking lens. I love the results I can achieve on my 5D II.

I had a 12-24 for a short while but was very disappointed with it, the softness of that particular lens was unbearable, and ultimately it was too wide for what I wanted - the distortion of the field of view at 12mm on FF was too much.

I now have a Sigma 15-30mm, and it is excellent. Acceptably sharp across the frame, very sharp in the centre 50%, fast focusing (if a little noisy doing so) and incredibly good value for money. I bought mine here from someone who's opinion I trusted for £170, I could have bought one on eBay for £150.

I've had other Sigma lenses and been very pleased with them, I just think this particular 12-24 was a bit 'saggy'.

Just to be clear, if the lens is working as it should there'll be next to no actual distortion. The lens is very well corrected and straight lines will be straight lines.

Working correctly or not, at 12mm the images this lens was producing on my 5d2 was distorted. The edges became very stretched, and that was not the look I wanted. I appreciate that UWA lenses will do this, I found it to be simply too much with this lens. If I'm using the wrong terminology to describe the effect then please do correct me, but this is what I saw, as well as terrible softness across the image.

The lens is well corrected, but as with any other lens it exhibits barrel distortion at the extreme wide, wider than 15 mm for me begins to show, but I like the way it is. Agree with others on corner and edge un-sharpness, but its a fun lens to use for buildings and scene shots

Yup. That's the way all lenses work (I think...:D) but obviously it'll only be noticed at the wide end.
