Hi all,

I couldn't see one of these threads for this lens already from doing a quick forum search so thought I would start one. I have just ordered one myself this morning and I am looking to getting hold of it next week and testing it out on my Canon 5dmk3.

Who else has one, what camera do you use it on and feel free to post some images taken with it! :)

... or get it calibrated under warranty or buy a dock. ;)

This is my my no.1 lens after using many.

Good to hear twist! I am looking forward to getting it, lets hope no calibration is needed. I believe, and correct me if I am wrong, the dock can't be used to calibrate this particular lens, just for firmware updates? Would you recommend getting the dock?

You can calibrate it with the dock, you may not need the dock though, see when it arrives. Mines at MA -8 on Nikon.

Same here. Best lens ever made

Totally agree, you will have to pry mine out if my dying hands!

I love my 70-200 canon L and 18mm zeiss but I hardly use them because the sigma rarely comes off the camera long enough.

Anyone got any images they wish to share taken with this fine lens then? Need something to wet my appetite ahead of its arrival on Tuesday :)

Its a very good lens i have one along with the 5D3 i had to adjust AF a little with the dock ( can do it in body though )

Lovely images @todders Love those rays coming through the trees!

@Throttle yes agree can be done in camera via micro adjust or by the look of it with the dock.

This is on the nikon df and iam at +8 with fine tune thanks for the kind comments about the pictures.

Lovely shots :D but looks like you've caught a dust bunny in that 1st one, just above the centre of the frame towards the right hand side.

Its arrived, well, it came Tuesday, I haven't had chance to test it yet but very excited. Looking forward to the weekend! :)

So as I mentioned literally just above, I got my lens, although sadly this weekend I have only had a few mins to fire of some test shots and check its all ok. I have uploaded the following 2 images, both straight from camera with only a white balance adjust, no sharpening or any other editing at all.

Can you guys tell me what you think? One is a full frame image of my 24-105 and the other is a heavy crop into the same image. It looks pretty damn sharp to me, but wanted to get your opinions on the matter, incase I am missing something. Both images shot wide open at F1.4 on my 5dmk3.

Yes sure, apologies.

ISO 200

Tbh I should have put the iso up a little to get a faster shutter speed in order to make sure I was getting no blur from hand holding, but I have pretty steady hands. Its taken in my office under artificial lights and I was testing how slow I could go with the shutter speed and get a sharp shot. I can redo some more if needs be.

I guessed the aperture but not the speed and ISO lol :-) I would just get outside and do some more tests. Iam sure you will enjoy the lens when its sharp its almost knife like.

Thank you Adrian, just wanted to be sure I had a good copy, will get some more shots done this week and put some more up.

At those speeds hand held it may be difficult to offer an opinion.. Have fun with the lens look forward to see what you come up with over the next few weeks.

I have had the Sigma for about a month now and i am finding it very frustrating.

I mainly shoot mountain bike racing and people/ pets and find it very inconsistent. With static subjects i find it super sharp at F1.4 and have got some fantastic results but anything moving it just misses focus 9.9 out of 10.

Yesterday was a prime example with a mountain bike shoot. Took about 60 photos and i had FOUR that i was happy with! Just to put that in context i shot over 600 shots with my 135F2 on the 5d3 and had no missed focus shots at all so its not down to what i am doing.

It's the same with the dog shoots i have had recently, spot on with still dogs but moving it just misses focus so badly.

I am now at the point where i am scared to use it for anything!!

These below are what i get when it works...

I have deleted all the awful ones but lets just say that they were way way off and totally unusable.

First, awesome shots, the two you gave posted. Really love the first! I haven't had chance to use mine for anything moving yet, so will be interested to see what I get as I too have a 5dmk3. Wonder what others have found that have the lens.

Another owner here. Use mine mainly on my 7D2, my first non canon lens and it's now my go to lens!

Those are great but I also have similar issues at F1.4, obviously the DOF is so narrow that when something is moving it can be difficult to nail focus. I did have a Nikon 35mm F1.8g that was much better at this, all be it at F1.8, but the images from the Sigma when they work are special.

Cheers guys.

As to the DoF being paper thin, i accept that i will have the odd one that has missed focus or not sharp enough but these are coming out way off!

I can take a sequence of 4 or 5 shots and they can be way off, as in missed focus entirely on the subject and caught the background or where it doesn't seemed to have focused on anything!

You could out this down to technique but i am pretty used to fast moving bikes and dogs and normally when i miss focus i know why!

This is my usual stuff...

Just thinking there was a software update some time back to fix an af issue. Have you tried updating it through to app to see if that fixes it?

Some great shots there, however I echo your findings, when it works its an astounding lens, probably the best I've ever used but its also one of the most frustrating lenses when the AF doesn't work as you would expect.

Don't know anything about an update but will have a look. The lens was bought brand new last month so should be all good and up to date.
