Anybody used one in anger?
I've got the chance to buy some serious glass next month and this lens looks the muts nuts.

Yeah it's over 500mm long, that thought had occured to me, but I like the idea of having all that reach and i wouldnt be taking it out the country that often.

Mifsuds have got one for £4299 which is pretty much a bargain compared to Canon glass. I was also concerned about the image quality.

Just reading an old camera magazine whilst sat on the porcelain throne and they were using said lens for a picture of the moon as part of a photoshop project. Looks great but seriously large!

I think there are no doubts (in my mind anyway) of the ability of the lens to deliver on sharpness and that price is pretty good. The only other concern I'd have is f/5.6 may not always be enough - I spend a lot of time running my 2 big (ish) primes at f/4 to get enough light in.

If you plan to get it, be prepared to spend a lot on a decent gimbal head and tripod and, if you can, go and have a look. A lot of people don't realise how big some of these bigs lenses are until you try them

...and an osteopath. Can't help feeling that just isn't as practical (because of the size and weight) as a decent prime (e.g. a Canon 300/2.8) with a 1.4x and a 2x TC for use when needed (which shouldn't be any less sharp than the sigma). Price-wise, sounds similar too.

I agree Andy. Even my 500 can be a pain to move around at times and the Sigmonster is the same weight as my 400 and 500 primes combined...

Thanks for the info guys.
