Sigma 300 F2.8 and TCs

Has anyone used the Nikon 1.7* converter with the Sigma 300 F2.8?

I have both and was wondering if it was possible. I already have the Sigma 1.4*, but since acquiring a D3 I find I need all the reach I can get....

Can't help with that combination, but I use the Nikon 1.7x converter on the Nikon 300mm f2.8 and find it gives excellent results

Didn't want to try in case I damaged anything. Wondered if anyone else had tried it.

I have used 1.4/1.7 & 2.0 x Nikon TCs on a manual focus Sigma 300/2.8 and they worked okay.

I have the 2x and 1.4x sigma and a 120-300mm F/2.8, with the 1.4x TC there's no drop in PQ at all but with the 2X there's a noticeable drop, so much so that I don't use the 2x with it at all so you may not be happy with the results.

see if you can try one out before spending any money
