Has anyone got one of these lenses?

If so, how does it perform?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I think one of the Mods has one, it might be Matt, I might be wrong though I am sure I saw Marcel mention it in a post on here the other day/week. Be prepared to invest in a decent tripod as it needs to be well anchored to get the best out of it, but if you do then it's a cracker of a lens seemingly, I came across it time and time again when researching my Siggy 500 F4.5 prime, but it's a monster lens and not one you could carry about, it's a sit and wait lens ;)

Excellent review HERE

Mike.

Thanks Mike, I thought CT said Matt had one, but damned if I can find the post.

At 6 kgs it is similar weight to my 600 F4, I am just weighing up the possiblities before I plump for either a fast prime or one of these.

Hi,

that might have been the post I saw too, there is another review HERE too, I have no doubt it's a great lens and would love to try one especially now I have reduced my crop factor to 1.3 with the 1D Mark II I bought, the flexibility of the zoom must be a bonus too, I mean I love my Siggy 500 but it can be a pain at times trying to hunt about for the subject, especially BIF, I am even seriuosly considering a 300 F2.8 IS to replace it and the get a TC to boost the length

Mike.

I guess we both have the same, pleasant, dilemma......:D

Its supposed to be an awesome lens.

One my my Pro buddies uses on a Canon MK-III doobrie, pretty awesome.

Upgrade your tripod though!

Looks amazing to me, but at the price it's a wet dream at best.

JuZ. has one so it might be worth following some of his posts or asking him direct... he had a link to images straight from his cam somewhere and the amount that lens resolves is quite astounding. It stopped me taking moon shots anyway. :) Check his 'gear' shot out in his sig.

Ah well, saw sense and won a 1.4 tc for my 600 F4 on the bay, see how things go later in the year before I decide on one of these or not.

Hi,

there is one for sale on EOS Classifieds HERE :D

Yes , must be difficult for you Canon users........:D

How do you like the 500 siggy?

I have one...great lens!

It really does need plenty of practise to be able to use it properly.

Being able to use the 300 end to get an object in frame and then zoom to a tighter fov is great.

I use the Wimberley II head with it and it is rock steady.

Bit of a beast to carry! Get yourself down the gym before purchasing.

Hi,

I love it, very sharp, not too heavy only thing it lacks is IS, it's been a great buy for me and would be very loathe to part with it and would only do so for the Canon 500mm IS version or a 300F2.8 IS and TC's.

Mike.

I was trying to get a buzzard in flight with my 600 with 1.4 on it, damned difficult, it must be sweet to be able to lock on at 300 and then zoom right in without searching the skies for the bird in the first place.
