Both excellent lenses.

Is the Canon worth the extra £300?

For information, I intend to use the chosen lens for portraits.

Cheers.

If I was using it only for portraits I'd save even more money & get the non-HSM version & save £560

The greatest criticism of Sigma lenses seems to be the quality control, if you get a 'good one' you'll be hard pushed to spot a significant difference between it & the Canon

Ps. I've got the 24-70 non-HSM so may be a bit biased :D

I'd get a copy of the non-HSM version too (I infact have one!).. it's a cracking lens, made better by it's price!

I've got the sigma and haven't been overly pleased with really

the new version sigma 2470 is way better than the canon one

I'm not one of the canon users that feels "L" glass is the be all and end all but I am curious about that comment.

The canon 24-70 is generally respected as producing excellent IQ and built to take knocks. I don't doubt that the Sigma is also very fine and I like lots of their glass but please explain how it can be way better?

the canon one is a great lens indeed, but it's also too old, especially campare with the new sigma one, you will see problems like purple problem, and the sigma one is also better than canon on resolution at any aperture stop before f16, sigma also win the corner sharpness, we can't say canon 2470 is not a good lens, but the sigma one is sure has better picture quality, and also , cheaper:lol:

Any proof to back this up?

I have been looking at both this and the L, and everyone seems to say the Sigma is good, but the Canon or Nikon equivalents are better lenses although they do cost more.

Would be interested if you have had both and have any pics, or links to prove the Sigma is better, as the price is better for my pocket, but presently I am heading toward L.
