Sigma 24-70 f2.0

It seems Sigma are aiming to take a big chunk of the Pro market head on. The build of their new lenses, and I'm sure the new 24-70 f2 will be no exception, seems to be way ahead of their competition.

I have used the out going 120-300 f2.8 OS on a D3s and D700 and I was very impressed with it. I'm waiting to try the new version which looks similar to the 24-70 f2's styling and build.

This is could even reduce the prices of own brand lenses when agencies etc start ordering Sigma over the camera manufactures lenses???

All my lenses are Nikon f2.8's from 17-35 up to 300mm and I'm seriously considering investing in the 120-300mm f2.8 and ditching my 70-200mm f2.8 and 300mm f2.8. I wonder if my Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 could be next?

Yeah sigma has really upped there game. They developed a new plastic that needs less room between lenses which i guess makes this possible. There is also talk of a lens mount swapping service, then there is the home micro adjustment docking station, sigma looks like a good option. Also on a superficial level they look better looking than the canikon lenses which are looking a bit dated.

+1

They have shown that they are very serious now. I ve just bought their 35mm ART over the Nikon equivalent and its amazing. If this new 24-70mm F2 is as good as the 35mm F1.4 and 18-35mm F1.8, then Nikon, Canon and Sony are going to have a big hit

A few months ago I would have been sure this was a fake, like I did with the 18-35 1.8. Now not only am I sure it exists, I am also sure it will be really good and really fairly priced.

It's starting to look like when I need to replace my 17-55 DX lens for any reason I'll be looking at the sigma options first not Nikons.

Some will worry about front/back focus issues and I do understand that. I've never personally had a problem with any Sigma lens but I think maybe that's due to the bodies I've used them on, 20D and 5D. I read on one review site that their 20D suffered fewer focusing issues than any of their camera bodies and as the 5D's focus system is (I believe) similar perhaps these cameras are more Sigma friendly than later and perhaps less Sigma friendly cameras.

If Sigma can keep a lid on the back/front focus issues and change peoples perception of their QC they could have an even bigger impact with their quality lenses.

With newer bodies front/back focusing shouldn't be an issue to sort. I'm sure we all want our lenses 100% spot on but that's why bodies are equipped to sort this sort of thing.
