As above really...

I recently used a mate's copy of this lens and I was very impressed with it...so much so that I would think it is at least 90% as good as Canon's L equivalent.

Any opinions from anyone else with experience of this lens?

Would love to hear:thumbs:

Cheers

I absolutely love mine!
Razor-sharp wide open and ridiculously sharp stopped down.
Fast, accurate focusing.
Great DOF.

Top-class lens which I would highly recommend! :-)

I'm not a Canon user however IME the Tamron 28-75mm betters this lens (particularly wide open). The Sigma is pretty sharp wide open but for me it hasn't got that *special something* compared to the Tamron lens.

i found the flare on the tamron crappily noticeably noticeable, i went back to primes for that very reason

I totally agree. The Tamron is a better choice if you don't need those 24mm.
I had a very sharp copy of the Tamron and the quality was amazing for a zoom lens. I just sold it because I don't use zooms anymore.

I owned both the sigma and the tamron, but when it came to the crunch, i had to sell one or the other.

I did a comparison, camera was mounted on a tripod, using manual focus, with crop factor in live view mode, and the sigma was considerably sharper than the tamron, dont get me wrong, the tamron is sharp, and i've took a couple of great portraits with it, but the sigma just pipped it for me.

got the sigma on a Nikon great lens for the price.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Anyone want to venture into a comparison with Canon's L equivalent?

The mani issue is focus spreed and accuracy, the Canon i apparently far faster and more accurate.

Great big heavy old noisy workhorse.... I love mine ;)

Use mine for portraits and weddings and love the results
