Hi all.
Due to the wonderful search facility on the forum, I tend to find out most of the information I need without having to post. ( which doesn't help my post count)
I have decided to get either the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 ( thanks for the images Puddleduck) or the Sigma 24-70 f2.8. I am leaning towards the Tamron but I don't want to jump in on the Tamron and then Sigma release the HSM version of the 24-70.
I've been on Sigma's site and cant see any release dates for the HSM version.

Has anybody got any info on the release date of the above.
Thanks
Ian..

I'm also waiting on info on the HSM version as a possible for the D700.

All depends on image quality compared to the Nikon 24-70

From what I found when I searched, the IQ was not as sharp as the Canon, so I presume the Nikon will be similar. But for the price difference and as I'm a relative novice, It will more than meet my needs.
Ian.

Any news on a release date yet? I can't seem to find anything.

January 2009 now for the Sigma 24-70 HSM.

Thanks for that. Any idea on prices? I'm considering the non HSM version as its so good value at the minute and maybe even more so when the HSM hits the shops.

I've seen a few US dollar prices and they look surprisingly steep!

I am guessing here, but I don't think you'll see any change out of £500 for the HSM version - and if Sigma are very confident in the optics... £650 wouldn't surprise me either....!

That seems very ambitious of them to lump it into the Canon 24-70 price bracket ( nearly).
I would go for the Canon every time, even if the reviews were glowing.
If that price turns out to be correct, the non HSM is even a better bargain now.
Cheers
Ian..
