I have owned this lens for 2 years and I still amazed at the images that it gives me. This lens tends to be on my camera one hell of a lot. If you can find one of these you will not be disappointed. This lens has a great following and a certain other forum. Funny how you get a lens that you never want to take of your camera.

What lens do you always keep on your camera?

It's a cracking lens, but mine is front focussing. I rarely get a decent image from it as manual focussing on a small viewfinder like the 40d's, especially as it's not a decent prism for manual focussing, and it's just not even worth using it in autofocus at all.
it's a shame really.

50mm f/1.4. It's the only lens I have - I have no intention to get another because it is so unbelievably sharp (on a 1Ds especially) that anything else BUT another expensive prime would probably disappoint me, gorgeous IQ, colours and bokeh, and on full frame the focal length is so workable, you can use it in almost any situation. Only having one lens (a prime at that) also makes me think much more about my photo and get a very high rate of keepers - I'm nearly 100% now. I found when I had a few lenses, I spent more time thinking about what lens to use than composing the shot, and ended up not happy anyway.

I couldn't be a pro, that's for sure - as I am far too picky!

well done

Get yourself into a financial situation where you need to sell all your lenses bar one, then just don't bother buying any more... lol

Interesting thought. Would like to try just using a prime to see how I get on!

I went to a wedding today and after selling my Siggy 24-70 f2.8 last week, realised that I had to do it on my 50mm (f1.8).

I actually enjoyed having to think about the shots and where I was going to have to position myself to get them. I'm keeping it on there for now while thinking what to replace the Sigma with.
