Actually it is a fantastic bit of kit, if I had the £300 I'd be all over it
 
I bought one online right now.. £200 for that lens is a total steal, delivery for Wednesday YOSH!

it was just a scam from jessops. they cancelled the order claiming that Sigma no longer supply the lens.. I have never trusted Jessops and will never trust them again after this. I still have the money in my account but they now have my details and email to spam etc.. very low blow from them and I shall call them dirt from here to the end of the world.

I will stick to buying from decent suppliers like Digital Depot and leave the jokers alone.


Jessops are liars simple they lure you with a special offer IN STOCK for next day delivery hahaha, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
 
Good news for me, Marac and another Talk Photography forum member (Jemima)

By accident I have just received two Sigma 20mm lenses and a third one should be with me on Friday so I thought I should give something back to the forum members :)

What happened was that, as soon as I saw the £299 offer, I though I should get one for a University project where we would need a wide angle lens for a full frame camera and I placed an order for it to be collected from a nearby store.

When the price went down to £199 I thought the best I could do was to order another at £199 and pick that order up rather than the first, in case they would ask for £299, so I did just that.

On the following day I noticed that the lens disappeared from the website and I went at the shop I was supposed to collect the lens from to ask what was going on. They called the central warehouse and they told them that it was an end of line product and Sigma could not supply any more of these lenses so my order would be cancelled.

I was not very happy as I promised the other project members that we would have a lens for the weekend shoot so I called the head office and complained about this. They checked and they found that there was only one lens in the whole of the UK (on the other side of the country!) and promised to get it to me with a store transfer.

The lens was supposed to be sent today for delivery, either on Friday or on Saturday, to my local store.

I was not expecting any notification for a couple of days and then I suddenly received a text today that my lens had arrived at the store. Thinking that they sent it yesterday rather than today I went at the store to find that they had both the original orders!!!

I now have in my hands two Sigma 20mm lenses. I am keeping one for work and I promised the second one to another forum member (Jemima) as she tried to get one unsuccessfully and she had mentioned this to me.

MOST LIKELY I will be getting the third lens on Friday. IF all goes well and I do I will be very happy to offer it to Marac for what it will cost me (£199). He can either pick it up or I can post it to him and he can reimburse the postage to me.

There is only one catch. It looks like both lenses I got today were display models. They are both in mint condition BUT one of the 2 did not have a hood. Jessops promised to find a 3rd party hood for me (after they suggested that I could just not buy the lens if I did mind, yeah, fat chance that would happen!) but I will not hold my breath for them to do that.
If they do then great, if not then I will give the hood to Jemima and I will keep the second one and Marac will have to get one from Ebay. If he prefers not to do that then I will offer the lens to the next forum member that asks for it in this thread.

That's it! My, most likely, longest post in this forum :eek:
 
Micloi, a true gent you are sir. IF you get the lens I will be happy to buy it from you and pay RMSD too, the hood is an issue really as they are 82mm on the front but I can live without it until i find one on fleabay or just order one from Sigma.. PM when/IF it comes through. thanks
 
as an aside......... I contacted sigma the other day regarding a new lens hood for my 17-70 f2.5-4.5

they put me on to this company........photospares.

May come in handy if one or more of you need a lens hood.
 
The price for the original hood for the 20mm is not too bad at all (£19.99) but I do not think I would buy the one below!

I suppose if you have £7k+ for a lens then £450 is relatively cheap. Seems a lot for a lens hood though!!!!
 
Not the best news today I am afraid. Even though the lens was transferred from the other store to my local one on Wednesday, it did not arrive today as expected and, as there will be no deliveries on Saturday, I will have to wait until Monday to see what happened and if they can find where and how it was misplaced.

Hope it is not turning to a, too good to be true, story ...
 
An update.

Got a call from my local store that they called the store it was sent from and they said that the courier brought the lens back to them (the originating store!)

Sounds a bit fishy to me but they say that it will be sent again and by Wednesday they should have it.

Let's see ...
 
Thanks for the update, I still have the funds on stand-by just incase the lens gods are smiling on me.
 
It's an alright lens, horrible clunky MF switch, steam-powered AF.....optically on a par with 10-20, so OK.

The crazy short MFD lets you do some cool stuff though.
 
Nothing today I am afraid but they told me to check again tomorrow.

Let me see and if it does not come and you really need one and are going to use it loads I might consider letting you having mine as it was really an impulse buy and I am not really sure how much I will use it (I am mostly into birding rather than landscapes).

Let me sleep on it and check with the OH and see if she does not want it for herself and I will let you know tomorrow after I give Jessops one last try as, if they do not get it tomorrow it means that someone else got their hands on it at the headquarters ...

I should have waited to see if the 3rd one was delivered before telling you about it but I was sure they would send it :shrug:
 
Please do not worry Micloi, you stated exactly what it was all reliant upon so I am totally happy either way. Please do not feel obliged to sort me out with a lens, I thought it was very noble of you to offer the deal you did.

If you are certain you do not want the lens and are happy to sell it on to me then I will be happy with that also.

So we shall say, Tomorrow is the deadline either way.

Let's give it until Friday for me to have a day to decide for my lens but fingers crossed that Jessops will come up with it tomorrow.

I am afraid that no lens appeared today either so it is safe to say that it disappeared ...

I am considering letting mine go but I would really like to test it during the bank holiday weekend against my Sigma 17-35mm and decide which one to keep.

I will surely sell one of the two and you will have first dibs one any of the two. It is just a shame we did not get the 3rd one, it would have made things much easier for both of us!
 
No problem Micloi I will give it up. I have to have new brake pads fitted to my car so the money will get put to good use. the 20mm is a great bit of kit you will indeed love it, especially when used very close up....
