I'm thinking of replacing the kit lens on my D90 and have been offered an excellent condition Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 EX DC Macro for £150. It's a grey import so probably no warranty to speak of.

Should I go for it?

its a lovely lens, i only sold mine as it wouldnt work on the 1D..

to quote sigma:

Does your Sigma lens have an International warranty? I am looking to buy one of your lenses and I’m working overseas for a couple of months. I wanted to check whether Sigma UK will still cover lenses brought from outside the UK?
Sigma lenses do come with a 1 year international warranty, however, the warranty is only honoured if VAT and duty have been paid on importation into the UK, otherwise it is an illegal import. Once these taxes have been taken into account, our customers usually find it better value to buy an official UK imported lens. Sigma UK also offer an extended 2 year warranty on all EX lenses which have been imported through us. For further details click here.

Thanks for the advice - think I'll sleep on it!!

Hi Mate
I had this lens for a year and sold recently to upgrade into Nikon.
They are very good, very sharp and if you have 50-150 or 50-500 to match then it will be great.
Otherwise you may miss 50-70mm if you use any other zoom lens like 70-300mm etc

This is my favourite lens too, really sharp throughout and can get some great depth of field shots with it wide open.

I'll add a note of caution. I had one too and it was anything but sharp wide open. Improved stopped down to 4.5, but nowhere near as good as the Tamron equivalent. Make sure you see some shots throughout the focal range before buying.

I have the previous version in a canon fitment for my 40D. Mine is a lovely lens and very sharp even at 2.8. There do seem to be good and bad ones though. £150 is a very good price.

Thanks to all for the comments, photos and advice.

I've parted with the cash - hope I get a good copy!
