hey peeps ive been offered one of these for £170, is this the going rate for these or not, comes boxed with hood ,caps and padded case. Also are they any good...........:)

Thanks

Isn't a bad lens at all.
Will need to be stopped down a bit, but when it was, the one I had was as sharp as hell!

From F4 onwards it's a beaut.

And that is a reasonably good price I'd say

I've tried both, and went for the Tamron....£170 ain't a bad price for the Sigma, as long as it's mint!

Haven't tried the Tamron so I can't comment on that but I do still own the Sigma... It's a bloody good lens and £170 isn't a bad price.

Optically, it's very sharp and the colour/contrast rendition is excellent too. :)

Have the Sigma and I love it, my copy is sharp enough to be used at 2.8 but with Sigma QC things vary so try the one you are offered before you decide.

I haven't tried the Sigma but I own the Tamron 17-50. Both are generally regarded as very good and from my experience I can really recommend the Tamron which stays on my camera 80% of the time. If you look at completed ebay sales the Sigma seems to sell for a little less than the Tamron. Both are in the £170-£230 range depending on box, condition, age etc.
