I took this lens to London with me after borrowing it from college.

I am getting £150 for christmas to buy a lens. Should I buy this (£78) ot should I save the money and buying something else?

:help:

Thanks
Matt

I would say it's a step up from the Canon kit lens, but only a small one. For £150, you should be into second hand Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 territory, which is lovely piece of glass. May even get up to a used Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, which is pin sharp.

Matt, save it and buy Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO later on :) its about £100 more :) Look here :)

28-70 is even more cheaper ;)

Its not a "real" macro lens. It just has close focussing ablilties.

Nah, your 70-300 actually has quite good Macro capabilities, 1:2 at 300mm.
