Yes
I have new D300 have 300mm zoom thinking 170 500 tried it very heavy has anybody any thoughts as Sigma does not have anti vibration

I dont have that lens but do have the 50-500 still getting used to it and the 40d but seems good

Sigma have recently announced a 150-500mm f/5-6.3 which includes all the usual goodies like APO and HSM, but also interestingly has OS, which is sigma's version of a anti-vibration/image-stabilizing system. Its a real shame they didn't update the 50-500 with OS though :(

Mate just bought it and he's happy with it after a couple of shots through it. Ugly looking thing and weighs a bit though.

I bought this lens a couple of years ago for an Africa trip with my D60, I got some good results but it is heavy and I now use the canon 100 - 400 is, but have kept the sigma for the extra reach

Our very own Matty on here has one. Apparently he's off guzzling cheese somewhere, but from what i remeber he was very happy with it

f/6.3 at the long end though...

Similar price, try the Sigma 100-300mm f/4... with a 1.4* TC, you get a 420mm f/5.6 lens, still faster, and a lot sharper than the 170-500mm at the long end.

iv'e one which i use all the time its long and heavy but its a great lens.just remember good tripod/monopod is a must.......

I have one. I usually use it hand held but I do have the benefit of in body IS.
If the light is bad I might use a monopod.

You can even pan with it, very usefull if someone stands in front of you. You can knock them senseless with it and claim it was an accident ;)
Cars half way down are with the Sigma

It does take a month of Sundays to focus from one end to the other though but it's not a bad lens for the money.
