hi guys, just ordered a Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.0 DC Macro OS HSM Lens for my d90, any of you guys got this lens? any reviews? pros/cons of the lens? any feedback much appreciated. :)

This is my goto lens for my Canon 550D, I recently took this to India and it didn't let me down. 17 is pretty wide, I could do with something longer than 70, but then you probably wouldn't get f/4 at that end. The HSM is quick and virtually silent. Also the pseudo macro is handy when getting those close-ups without carrying a macro lens.

This is a good review which covers Canon and Nikon lens comparisons:

Have fun.

I have one that I use as my everyday lens (on a D5100), I really like it, it's very versatile. It can be a bit soft off-centre at 17mm and the AF hunts a bit in low light, but over all I'm happy with mine.

I loved it :)
I've owned a few versions (OS and pre OS) in my time and always managed to get good sharp copies of it.
The close focus is just obscene, you can almost touch the object with the lens!

Personally I always preferred them over the Tamron 17-50 that a lot of people go for.
The variable aperture is annoying at times but the extra 20mm is handy!

This thready only came up last week :bonk:

I have non HSM version, it's slightly better optically according to some test I saw, but since I didn't see any HSM ones for sale I don't care. Closest focus on a non HSM one is touching the lens on Nikon mount.

Lovely lens and sooooo cheap, it's be a crime not to buy one!

Plenty of samples across the board in my latest blog post. (some also posted here in transport)

thanks for that guys, really cant wait for it to be delivered  :D

I had the Canon version, dont go jumping around with your camera hanging round your neck, I jumped about 6" off the ground to catch a nerf ball when I landed the lens snapped off at the mount :-O

Cost £90 to get it repaired by Sigma. Sold it on after that and got a Canon efs 15-85 instead. I was happy with the image quality but just didnt trust the strength of the mount.
