I've had one for about 3 years now and am perfectly happy with it.

I'm a big fan of this lens. J Dennis Thomas, who wrote the 'D7100 Digital Field Guide', rates the current 'C' version very highly. I find the ability to focus down to half life-size is very useful - took my avatar with it. The earlier version suffered from pincushion distortion at mid-focal lengths but I haven't had a chance to check the current version yet.

I had one for a year and was never very happy with it, not very sharp, I have heard that there quality control is not all that, just replaced it with a Canon 15-85mm max aperture only goes to 3.5 but so far I am really happy with it in comparison.

The only down side is that it's not a constant f2.8 and indeed f2.8 is only available at the widest focal lengths, once you move the zoom ring... bye bye f2.8.

This is the lens I was goin to go for as an upgrade from the kit lens on my d3100. I've got a nikon 50mm 1.4, sigma 10-20 & 70-300. So it would make a great walk around lens but everywhere I asked was told to get tamron/sigma 17-50! Still unsure personally, if u do go for it would be great to hear ur thoughts as u've already had the tamron?
