Yes
I am not able to connect the lens to the teleconverter, which is strange because I would have thought the fixing on the tele converter would be the same as the camera.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is it broken?
Is it known that the Nikon teleconverter does not work with the sigma lens?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can advise me on this.

I don't think you can use Nikon TC's, Sigma do their own specifically for the lens.

Hiya Brian, Dave @Dave Semmens kindly offered to lend me his teleconverter when we were out one evening last summer, I was quite looking forward to seeing the results but sadly, as you've found, it wouldn't fit

If I remember correctly only the new sigma 1.4 will auto focus the sigma 1.7 won't. I wasn't too impressed with the iq with the teleconverter on.

Looks like the 1.7 is just like the 1.4 then :(

I owned a Sigma TC a few years ago and must say that I was quite impressed with the IQ and the price was cheaper than the OEM version. So, may be worth giving a Sigma a try?

Edit - this was probably on a Canonlens / body as it was when I first got into photography and before I saw the light ;)

I don't think they are being awkward. Its to stop you from putting the teleconverter onto lenses where the rear element of the lens would hit the front element of the teleconverter. Nikon telephoto lenses that are suitable for the teleconverter have a slightly different mount which allows it to mount with the tab. The Sigma one does not.

Nikon TCs have a protruding forward element that physically prevents them mounting to some lenses, both Nikon own brand and 3rd party. FWIW, Fuji TCs are the same. One lens that Nikon TCs will not fit is the 70-300 VR but the Kenko 1.5x TC I have WILL fit on and AFs on the D70, 700 and 750. Results are generally poorer than cropping to get the same FoV from an unconverted shot.

Like others have said it's design due to protruding element on the teleconverter. Something that hasn't been said is teleconverters were designed for fast lenses like f4 and f2.8. I know modern cameras will auto focus up to f8 and could protentially be used with lenses like 150-600 but focus speed, accuracy and image quality will always take a hit (even the f2.8 and f4 lenses are affected to certain degree). I do wonder if some of new advice from manufacturers saying teleconverters will work on f5.6/f6.3 lenses is a marketing ploy to increase teleconverter sales.
