I've just hired the Sigma 150-600 sport lens. Now I hope I'm not being a bit thick but can't get the hood to attach (LH1164-01). As far as I can tell online there should be grooves around the lens and the hood clicks into place but when I turn the hood it just keeps going around and around and I tighten the screw and nothing happens. Am I missing something????

I've got the sport and you just make sure that you put the hood on level and as far back as possible and tighten the screw as far as it goes - doesn't have to be very tight. It could also be that the thread has gone on the hood itself therefore making it useless.

Word of warning. I originally rented one......then I bought one.

There was a problem with the screw on the hoods where the little retaining nut fell out so the main screw would just keep turning and not tighten up. Sigma fixed my hood under warranty but they will also send out a kit so you can do it yourself. Saying that it's not much use to you if you have just rented it. Great lens though bit on the heavy side after a while.

Edit: you don't attach/turn the hood in the usual way just undo the little screw as far as possible, put the hood on (you will feel it drop into place) then tighten the screw.

That might be the problem. We put little stickers on the lens hoods of our big Canon and Sigma lenses, warning customers not to over tighten them.

What's going on with these hoods is that there is a liitle component like a chisel blade (though not sharp, obviously) which makes contact with the rim of the lens and holds the hood in place. So you have this blade on the inside of the hood, and the knob on the outside of the hood, and the only thing that keeps them together is a tiny little circlip on the spindle of the knob. Tighten or untighten the knob too much, and this clip gets forced against the blade or the inside of the hood, and it pops off. (And it's so tiny, you'll probably never find it.) It's very annoying, and I would call it a major design flaw if I could think of a better solution, but I can't.

If I were you I'd secure the lens in place with electical tape, or failing that gaffer tape. It won't hurt the lens.

Had a look at the end of the screw and it's flat and looks damaged so looks that's the reason it won't stay on
