Sigma 150-600 Contemporary

Hi

Just ordered one along with the dock but wonder if it's worth putting a protection filter on it? It's 95mm I think so they are expensive.

Any thoughts?

I bought one with my lens and found it impacted on the quality of the images.I now use it as a lens cap and remove it for shots

Never. Use the lens hood for protection.

Why not just use the lens cap as a lens cap?

I don't really know myself but I have read on this forum that the longer the lens the worse the effect of the filter.

Booked tickets for Duxford Airshow in Sept so that will give the lens a good try out. Birding is something I've never done before so that'll be interesting. Quite a change from my usual macro work.
