sigma 150-500mm os not working on my nikon d750 help

hi all just wondering if anyone is using a sigma 150-500mm lens on there d750,been out with mine today and the os is not working although it works on the d7100,anyone else having the same issues cheers iwols
 
Not sure about Nikon but I recall reading of folk with Canon where an older Sigma lens needs 'rechipping' to work properly with newer bodies.

Perhaps that is the issue?
 
thanks for the replies guys just phoned sigma and they seem a bit vague if its a fw issue(strange)but they recommend me to send it back for a check at £38.

Really sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. First time I've logged onto the forum over the weekend.

@minnnt is correct in saying I had a problem with the 150-500mm on my Nikon D750. The OS would come on occasionally but more often than not it just wouldn't work. I didn't have another body to test it on so had no choice but to send it in. As it turned out, Sigma told me the OS had completely packed up and charged me a bit over £200 to replace most of the electronics in the lens. I had to take their word for it.

When I e-mailed them about the issue, before sending it in, they said it was probably just the firmware and they would only charge me £5 if I had the original receipt. Like you say, it would be £37.99 without it. The fact your OS is working on the D7100 would suggest it's probably just the firmware in your case. I read other reports on the net about the D750 not working with this lens and a firmware update should fix it - shame it didn't for me though! Sigma were very quick to turn my lens around and returned it well packaged.

Not sure how helpful this is but it's probably worth paying the £5 / £38 to get it checked out.

Why not? If it is out of warranty and you want it replacing what are you meant to do?

Obviously I wasn't happy at the time as I was hoping it was a £5 firmware update but, like David says, you either pay to have it repaired or have a broken lens returned to you. According to Sigma, most of the electronics needed updating for the new OS to be installed. So the lens ended up with following work being done -

REPLACE IMAGE STABILISER
REPLACE REAR BARREL
REPLACE MR SENSOR
REPLACE AF MOTOR
RESET, CHECK & TEST

It came back to me in good working order and the OS was an improvement (much quieter) on how it was before it stopped working.

£207 is a lot of money for sure but in terms of getting a large telephoto lens fixed I thought it was probably "cheap"!
 
I had the OS on both my Sigma 50-500mm OS lenses repaired (Canon and Pentax mount) under the 3 year warranty.

For this reason I will not buy any new Sigma lens unless it is UK sourced and therefore eligible for their extended warranty.
 
There has to be a cut off date though, surely? If it was a well reported issue then perhaps you could argue it more but they're running a business at the end of the day.
running a business or not, that seems to be the norm these days.. a crap after-service.
once you buy a product they don't care, if its expensive or not.. what if it was a £8000 lens, would you still say the same..I think not..mark
 
ffs... A warranty is there for a reason and a set period of time. It has to end somewhere. Regardless of price. Nothing to do with crap customer service. Crap customer service would be if they didn't repair it WITHIN the warranty period.

You also pay for good build quality within an expensive product.

Tamron offer a 5 year warranty and Sigma a 3. If a product breaks outside of that period what more could the manufacturer have done??? Maybe they would offer a weeks or two's grace but they're not going to offer up an infinte amount of time. It's pretty poor that you would expect them to.

All the more reason to research your products before purchase and understand exactly what you're getting for your money.
 
Most things are sold with a 12 month warranty though whether it's an mp3 player or a washing machine.

Again, comes down to researching your products and whether or not a longer warranty is needed or not.
 
Duration of a warranty is the MINIMUM time, not necessarily the max.
