I am really contemplating buying this lens.

Just wondered how people coped with its size? How do you carry it around? Any issues etc??

Thanks

I've litterally just bought one so will let you know when it arrives. As a fellow Fifer, you're welcome to come check it out for yourself if you like?

I have the sigma 120-400 which is of a similar size, it not too heavy and is usuable hand held on the camera.

Had one about 3 weeks now, I adjusted the strap on the lens to share the weight with my camera strap, I find having both straps around my neck not only shares the weight, but keeps it stable from swinging, hope your as happy with it as I am

I carry it over my shoulder on a monopod, it looks like a pick axe / hammer :D

I just let mine hang on the strap attached to the rear of the tripod foot, perhaps steadying it by holding it. It's a cracking lens.

same here
at first though I found that occasionally I "forgot" about the lens and carried it by the body and this really feels like its straining the lens mount..
I have managed to carry this for a good couple of hours without any problem

Mine gets carried around in the case that Sigma provide (by my wife if I can persuade her to carry it!). While I'm sure my camera body and the lens's own mount are strong enough to bear the strain of being carried around together, I tend not to use it in that way.

Issues? Well, it's not light! Can be a bit slow picking up a moving target against a cluttered background. F/6.3 at the long end, so you might need higher ISOs - not a problem with my D700. Ideally needs to be stopped down a little to improve sharpness which can cause even slower shutter speeds. OS works well, allowing handholding at way slower speeds than you'd expect. Zoom creeps out if it's carried pointing down (using the zoom lock stops that but is easily forgotten if a shot appears from nowhere!).

Thanks for all the replies. Certainly getting it. Seems to be out of stock every where. Have it on back order at warehouseexpress

its a great lens if used right, and it can produce wonderfull images, af speed is pritty good i found its faster than the nikon 18-200mm easily.
