I'm looking at getting the Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 DG HSM OS from onestopdigital as there is a massive saving to be had compared to the best UK price I can find.
However, I know that Sigma UK give a 3 year warranty but onestopdigital state 1 year return to base warranty or for another £15, a 3 year warranty.
Does anyone know if Sigma UK will honour a 3 year warranty if the lens was purchased outside of the UK?

The saving appeals to me but not with the possible hassle of having to send a lens back to HK should a warranty issue arrise.

Having just got one, it has to be a genuine UK dealer for Sigma to give you their extended warranty.

I got mine from them, i just bit the bullet as it was nearly £100 cheaper, don't forget £15 Import duty to be paid which is posted soon after you recieve it. I'm not worried about warranty even though i should be.

I thought that might be the case, although their website doesn't say that they will not honour a one year warranty.
My main concern is because of their QA issues, as it's beena couple of years since I thought about buying a Sigma lens and that's why I didn't buy their swa lens.

I'd be well hacked off it I had a lens with an issue and I had to send it back to HK.
Looks like the extra cash to replace my knackered car stereo will be going towards a UK stock lens lol.

Just read the small print, one year international warranty if not purchased in the Uk, hmm....

Been there seen it and done it with Onestop

£38 return to send a Tokina 100mm macro back.

Didn't pay any duty when I got it.

They didn't send it back to the manufacturer they used some place in Hong Kong not Tokina.

Pays you money and takes your chance.

On a lens of that value I'd give it a miss.

I bought my 150-500 from a UK shop, specifically so that I could trial it, safe in the knowledge that I could swap for another copy, if I found problems.

I did return the first one because of focussing issues, the second version was much better!

yep its one of those things, if you get a prob then hacked off, if you do not get a prob you wish you had purchased from HK, its the one thing that so far has stopped buying from HK, but loads of people have.

Well there goes my faith in Sigma again!

Hmmm I know what you mean, Darran, but I'm glad I persevered.

It does make sense to pay the extra and get the three year warranty.
What was the AF issue you had?

It was front focussing, only slightly @ 500 but quite badly @ 150.

The new one is also sharper wide open, which was a bonus I hadn't counted on, I say sharper as it is still slightly soft @ 6.3 but takes a big step forward @ 7.1 & even better after that.

I tend to use it @ f8 whenever possible & the OS is remarkable, allowing for crazy low shutter speeds.

The results are getting better as I get more practice.

I'm drooling and I also have a wet spot, stop it!

I think Sigma only do the 3 year warranty on the EX range, the 150-500 isn't covered

There is no mention of that on their website or the t&c's.

I have just had this lens over the weekend from London Camera Exchange in The Strand, London. It didn't work out for me as I preferred the Nikon 80-400mm and I returned it today for a full refund.

The lens was used, in immaculate condition and was actually only 6 months old.

I had paid £625 for the lens, if you are quick it may still be there - worth calling, especially if you are around London area - though they will also post.

Only one slight problem, it's a Nikon fit and I am a Canon user :)
Thanks for the heads up and the pm making me aware.

It looks like they changed the offer in september 2010.

Mine is 20 months old & is costing me £130 for a new OS & service :(

With thanks to DemiLion who have me heads up about a used Canon 100-400L that MPB were selling, I have now bought this lens.
The idea of the Sigma was only because the 100-400L was out of my price range but for £50 more than a new Sigma and my faith in Canon being much better, I feel a lot happier getting this lens.

Blimey Darran! We can compare lenses in march. Mind you I only paid £480 for the sigma!
