How good is this lens?
I am possibly looking to purchase it to shoot Rugby and wildlife anybody got any feedback?

I have one. Love it. I'd recommend getting one from somewhere that excepts returns incase you get a bad copy. I bought mine from here but was assured it was a good copy and true to his word it's fab at both ends. Can't say I've seen any softness from it either but I've only had it a week or so. It's heavy aswell so make sure you're happy with that. The OS is incredible!

I just knew @minnnt would be in this thread! :p

For the price of these lenses, you can't really go wrong. I was very pleased with my copy. OK it helps to have some sunshine but I found it very easy to handhold. There simply isn't another way of getting to 500mm at this price level. Some people do seem to get "iffy" copies so do make sure you get a good one.

Just for clarity, David and I are talking about the exact same lens as I sold it to him. ;)

Had one for a while now and can't fault it for the price. No doubt there are better, sharper lenses out there, but they're hugely more expensive. It's harder to get good shots from, but mainly down to it's size and weight. It doesn't like low light very much and you get best results with good light and fast shutter speeds, that said however I do love mine.

These are shots at both ends of mine that I was reasonably happy with.

A few more from me from today :)
Missing it yet, Neil @Alejandro ???

:D

*grits teeth*

Me? Missing it? Nah.

*curls up in foetal position whilst gently sobbing* :arghh:

Looks like you're making the most of it. Some lovely shots there. Further proof it was actually me holding that lens back and not the other way round!

Glad to see it's gone to a good home though! ;)

Well I'm enjoying it up to yet! Taking some getting used to but I'm getting there with it slowly. But I think it's mainly the camera that is taking some getting used to tbh. The focusing system is quite a bit different to that of the d7k. It's good though.

These photos are awesome, looks like a great lens.

I have one & use it for wildlife.

You can get great results, but you need good light. It needs stopping down to f8 to get the best out of it, so I'd imagine that you will struggle with sports in the UK.

With wildlife you can take advantage of the OS & the moments that the subject is still, but you won't have that luxury with rugby.

I'd say you need a faster lens for that. Perhaps Sigma 120-300 f2.8?

that does look a good copy indeed , but you got off lightly i,m sitting here with a throbbing head wondering what induced me to buy a sigma 150-600,, os sport on friday :exit:

Be interesting to see what you can do with it Jeff as your shots are always awesome! The price of it atm is way out of my league. Been looking at the Tamron version though... :D

Check Internet review sites ... very variable.

SLR hut are a grey importer of variable repute (see the suppliers section for extensive discussion) - if you do want to buy grey you may want to have a look at the likes of panamoz and Hdew

On the original point I have the canon version , and i'd say buy one you won't regret it , for the money it is a superb lens for wildlife ( I know nowt about photographing rugby so i'm not commenting on that)

:agree: .
I really enjoy mine and still experimenting with it after over a year as I can't resist taking it out on dull days.
It's not too bad for photographing cricket on a sunny summer's day.
