Hi to all you knowledgable people out there.

I am going away for a few days at the end of may and want to hire a 150-500mm sigma lens nikon fit.

I spoke to a very nice man at lenses for hire but unfortuneatly they do not do that lens

does anyone know a reputable hire company I could get one from.

I want to buy one eventually but would like to use one first.

regards
Bob

Not really a popular lens for hire companies- I have one and can highy recommend it - its Sony fit though so I could even ofer to let you have a go

trek on down to your local Jessops they may have on you could have a look through

Will probably be a grey import and as such not covered by Sigma uk warranty (currently extended to 3 years) and as I know someone who has had 2 of these with focussing issues I paid the extra and bought mine from WEX for peace of mind.

......but if you are ok with that, it is cheap if nothing goes wrong.

I also booked a 50-500mm from Lenses for Hire, but cancelled it due to being impatient and buying my 150-500mm!

I've never used procamerashop before but I have used www.panamoz.com quite a few times before and their service is excellent. They have the Sigma 150-500 OS here http://panamoz.com/index.php/hot-de...m-for-canon-digital-and-film-slr-cameras.html for £592 with a 3 year warranty. It's an import but IF you have any problems you only have to send the lens to panamoz and they sort out the warranty claim. Entirely up to you where you buy from of course but a saving of over £200 against a UK supplier is worth it to me.

Thanks for all your help.

I am going to see if I can hire one for a week (I have found a place to hire from) and then my local camera shop will do me a new one with 3 years warranty on offer at £749.00.

Seems like a deal.

Heather what focussing issues did your friends have and why did you buy one if your friends had issues with theirs.
Not being nosey just put a bit of dought in my mind about buying.

The autofocus packed up (kept hunting) but was repaired by Sigma no problem. There was a recall on the older ones because of this and they were modified, something to watch out for if you buy secondhand.

Sigma customer service was excellent and they bent over backwards to get it done quickly before his holiday. I doubt very much if Panamoz would do the same.

I bought one after I was allowed to borrow it and saw what it could do! The best bird and kite-surfing pictures I have taken so far, which I would never have got with my 55-300mm nikkor, good bokeh and sharpness at a (almost!) reasonable price!

Here are a couple of pics.

I bought a Canon 60D and my Sigma 10-20, 18-250 and 150-500 from them. No problems (fingers crossed) and they were helpful and kept me up-to-date with the progress of my orders.

They are a bit of a beast to get used to but well worth the effort.(I think anyway!)

Good luck!
