Has anyone got any experience of using both of these lenses?

I currently own the Siggy 120-300 (DG version). I'm weighing up whether to start saving the pennies toward a 200-400 - which would mean offloading the 120-300 (amongst other lenses!). It's currently my favourite lens and always first in the bag for motor racing and football. Fantastically versatile and sharp.

So, is the 200-400 worth the extra £'s?

Try/hire the 300mm f/2.8 VR , then look again at what you want/need. :)

I borrowed the 2-4 F4 off a very good friend,it is an awesome lens.Nothing less.....

What level of football are you shooting? If its non-league then you will miss the extra stop from f2.8 to f4.

I was very luckyto have chance to use the big 200-400 nikon last year.
It is in my wish list, and i will get it
go with 200-400 no question
good luck

I have the 300mm f2.8 AFS II, which is super but usually gets left at home in favour of the 120-300 for motorsport. I found I was missing too many shots without the flexibility of the zoom. I did a comparison a few weeks ago at Brands Hatch and figured the Sigma wins, even if the Nikkor is a touch sharper (lugging those two around all day was fun! :D ).

And yes, football is non league. So far it's just been my old Sunday league team, but I'm hoping to sneak along to a few Rymans games next season. Yet to decide whether I'm just going to turn up, or ask the club and risk an official "no" before I do it anyway

I think I'm going to stick with what I've got for now...

I used to shoot for Fleet Town in the Ryman league! Its always best to ask first, 99 out of a 100 clubs will say its fine. They might even be interested in using your shots on their website etc.

Funny actually, I've been toying with the idea of the 200-400 for some time too...

I definitely think I'd want to hire it for a weekend to give it a good going over though before buying.

Opinions for people on the internet can only tell you so much, its really how you personally get on with it that counts.

The one thing I'm still not sure about is when given a heavy big zoom like this, will I end up shooting towards 400mm all the time anyway? If I do then I might as well buy a 400 prime or a 300 2.8 prime and use a TC with it.

SuperAP, if you want to sell your 300 2.8 gimme a private msg :D

Cheers people :)

Sorry desantnick, that lens is going nowhere (for now) :D
