Hi all,

Looking at purchasing one of these for use with motorsport to compliment my sigma 70-200 f2.8 (behind the fence).
I also have the 1.4x TC (APO version)

It will likely be the older model (without the OS) as I am struggling to find one of the newer ones within my price range. (no sure if the newer model will work with my TC anyway?)

What are peoples thoughts on the lens?
Build quality / Focusing speed / suitability for motorsport etc.

Regards,

I used the old HSM version for Motorsport (never bothered with the 1.4), I regret ever selling it :(

I bought the OS version (not the new sport one though) and it's my go to lens for wildlife and sport. Was welded to the D500 on a safari last year as well

If it captures bif then i think it will do motorsport fine

Yup, I had the 120-300 DG HSM

I used it for lots of Motorsport and in the Mach Loop (you don't get much faster than that)

I REALLY want to go to the loop. Just don't want to go and see hawks all day. Its just pot luck and a tad of research thrown in.
Nice shot, how fast was the person in the red coat moving? Mach 1?

What do we think a second hand one is worth in great condition?

I've had my 120-300 for a few years, prior to that I had a Sigma 150 500, the 120-300 works fine with both 1.4 and 2X TC's ( I have the early versions) although mostly for birds it did account well for itself at the BTCC Donnington warm ups a couple of years back.
