havent really got a clue what you on about sorry  firstly what is it for! which lens's are actually talking about (f-stop ect ect)

Got the Sigma 105 last week, primarily for Macro. Haven't had it out yet but been practising about the house and the IQ is fantastic. Don't know about the Tamron.

I read a lot of reviews on the Sigma and all but a few said it was pretty much the best in it's class and price range for macro and a damn good prime lens too.

The Sigma is :thumbs::clap::thumbs::clap::thumbs::clap: for me.

Hope this is of assistance.

I've got a Sigma 105mm and I love it but the Tamron 90mm has had some great reviews.
Go to your friendly camera shop and try them out for yourself.

both very good macro lenses but the tamron pips it for me because it's slightly less expensive than the sigma.

Checked the prices and the Tamron is about £40 cheaper but at 15mm less, the extra 1/2 to 1 inch minimum focusing distance you get on the Sigma 105 can make a difference when shooting live macro subjects. The Sigma 150mm APO gives about another 2 inches but it's over £100 more.

I thought you wanted something for shooting badminton? Macro lenses aren't going to do you any favours in the fast moving subjct stakes.

Missed the reference to badminton here  Both leses are excellent primes as well tho.

I've had the chance to use both the image quality would be great with either choice. The Sigma feels like a far better built bit of kit. It might not be but it does feel it.

In another thread started today 400duser wanted a lens for shooting badminton.

Hi there

sorry i am not sure about either getting a macro as i went to jessops and loved the sigma or buying a lens for badminton.

i partly want a macro more now.

thanks for all your help

Had both and prefer the Tamron tbh, just seemed a little sharper.Would say the sigma felt better built but just prefer the images from the tammy.

has any one got a direct comparison picture test between them

I think we could show him picture after picture from both lenses but seeing as they have all been sharpened in post-processing they are of little value.

The only valuable comments must be from people who have, or have used, both lenses.

Fair point but who doesn't like seeing shots taken with a lens they are thinking of buying. I'd have put some %100 crops up (which I always find way more useful personally) but as I'm at work I used what I have available to me here and now.

Needless to say, this lens is very sharp (well my copy is) and holds it own against the other lenses in my collection.
My only slight bug bear with it is its a little noisey and it doesn't have internal focusing.

105mm also gives you a slightly longer working distance over your subjects which you may find useful, especially if your doing bugs etc.
