I'm thinking of getting this lens for my D200. It's much cheaper than the nikon micro equivelant which is not an option... i can't justify nearly double the price.
I wouldnt be using a tripod for macro shots yet, and i know this lens doesn't have VR like the more expensive nikon.
Has anyone tried this for anything other than macro?
Does anyone have pics from this lens?

Any help would be appreciated ;)

I like this lens. Nuff said. :)

It's on my list of wants...either that or the Tamron 90mm Macro. Unless I can find a second-hand Sigma 150mm Macro;)

Nothing at all wrong with it (mines 10 years old, Canon mount, and non DG) slow to focus, but a very good bit of kit. Its outlasted all my other lenses by some years and I dont see any need to replace it yet.

Great lens for the money, i use one with a D300 - most of my posts in the macro forum use this lens.

I love mine. I quite often use it for portraits and other random things.

Its pretty slow to focus and hunts a bit sometimes though, but that doesn't matter really

Very good macro pics there. For macro its perfect. How is it at shooting anything other than macro? (not that it really matters considering those pics)

It's basically a slow focusing prime for non-macro shots. It's pretty much essential to have the focus limiter switch on for this to stop it hunting down to its minimum focusing distance. The lens has a push/pull focusing ring too, to disengage the ring from the focusing motor (if its engaged and in AF mode the ring rotates as it focuses... not good in that situation)

First non-macro pic i could find from the lens...

I know its not the best shot, but you don`t have to stick to macro with it either......

and 77mm if you fit it to the lens hood

I`ve had this lens ages and never realised that..............:bonk:

Nearly all my other lenses are 77mm as well........

It's a fantastic lens - great for portraits too. I sold mine as I didn't use it as much as the others, but I still rate it highly.
